Fangtopia from Secret Mode and Absolutely Games is a spooky but cozy tile-laying puzzle game for Nintendo Switch 2, perfect for some Halloween gaming. You’ll be working on building a variety of magical landscapes as you add some landmarks here and craft buildings that can host the many monsters that are ready to visit. You’ll be doing this by placing tiles from your stack as you connect terrain of the same type to boost your score and expand your creation, bringing new elements to life as you add some variety to the landscape you’re creating. As you reach score milestones, you’ll be provided with additional tiles to place, so that you can stretch your run and complete special objectives to get new tiles to keep the whole gameplay loop going strong.

This release offers three different ways of playing: Fangtopia Mode, Ghoulish Mode, and Island Mode. Fangtopia Mode is going to be the main one for you to jump into, since you’ll be able to build spooky but cozy worlds at your own pace without any pressure around you. Ghoulish Mode is going to be a bit more challenging, since you’ll be building larger worlds with more tile types. As for Island Mode, you’ll have to connect preexisting archipelagos as you lay down tiles with railway tracks.
Once you start to play, you’ll be using the right analog stick to rotate the camera and zoom in and out as needed. Using the left analog stick will allow you to pan through the area as you move your cursor. Hovering over an available space will allow you to place a tile by pressing the A button. When you do this, you’ll expand the world you’re creating.

Your score is displayed in the upper-right corner of the screen. You’ll get to boost it by placing tiles of the same type next to each other. Some tiles will have more than one terrain type, and you’ll get to score for the matching edges of the same type. You should take advantage of this by rotating a tile using the L and R buttons, so that you can find the best way of placing it to maximize your score gain. Made a mistake? Then press the B button to undo your last move.
You’ll notice a small number over the tiles on the bottom-right side of the screen. These numbers will let you know how many tiles you have left. Once you run out of tiles and can’t place new ones… it will be game over, and you’ll have to start from the beginning! To keep your run going, you should work on completing objectives so that you can obtain more tiles, place them to gain extra points, and then work on a new objective.

This is how you’ll manage to reach the target score for the round, allowing you to choose from the available landmarks. Some examples of landmarks include a volatile volcano, a possessed plough, and a rather spooky tree that has certainly seen better days. Keep an eye out for any portals that might pop up, since completing their objective will allow a monster to enter and explore the world you’re currently creating. Once you manage to open the portal, you’ll still be required to place the tile that will serve as the monster’s home in your kingdom. You can also place rail-type tiles to start working on creating a ghost train network to connect your kingdom. You will be scoring for matching tile edges as well as rails.
