In Gensokyo, humans and Yokai cohabit, which is definitely not something you’d expect to see. You’ll be working on helping the people of Gensokyo to solve their incidents as you try to keep the Human Village going strong. This is an important part of the gameplay loop for Touhou Genso Wanderer -FORESIGHT- since helping them will reward you with Boards. Boards can be used to boost your base stats, which is going to be crucial for a game like this one. At least this time around, you’ll get to keep your items and level during story dungeons!

Once you dive into the whole dungeon-crawling part of the equation, you’ll be exploring procedurally generated locations where you’ll take on turn-based combat in which enemies will move, act, and attack when you move, act, or attack. You’ll be able to bring a companion to aid you, which will allow you to take on more than one enemy at a time. Companions will follow one of four strategies: follow, attack, explore, and standby. Follow will make them follow you. Attack will prioritize attacking enemies. If you go with explore, your companion will wander around the dungeon. As for standby, it will make your companion wait at its current position.

Along with watching your hit points, you’ll have to keep an eye on your Hunger bar. This orange/red tinted bar will let you know how hungry your character is so that you can use the power of food to keep going. Hunger is an important stat since you won’t be able to move around a dungeon or attack if you’re not full of energy and ready for action. If you don’t eat something and decide to continue and your Hunger meter runs is emptied, then your HP will constantly drain! And yes, you can most certainly die from this!

You’ll control your character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad. Pressing the Y button will allow you to remain in place as you choose which direction to face, which is very important so that you don’t end up wasting a turn by moving or attacking in the wrong direction. You’ll attack with the A button. Pressing the B button will allow you to quickly move in the direction you’re facing. This is very useful when you’re going through one of the many corridors that connect rooms in the dungeons. You can also perform an iDash by pressing the R button and a direction. This dash type will adjust your character’s direction to automatically continue moving through a corridor that twists and turns.

Collect Danmaku so that you can attack enemies from a safer distance by launching them by pressing the L button. There are four different Danmaku types for you to choose from by using the right analog stick. Be sure to collect as many P points as possible, so that you can always have the chance to launch a Danmaku. One will be the standard Danmaku, which will deal a good chunk of damage. Another one is a great option for when there are enemies lined up in front of you. You’ll even have one for covering a wider area for when there are more enemies coming your way.

As you defeat enemies, you’ll gain experience points. As expected, this will allow you to level up. When this happens, you’ll get a good boost to your stats, and having more hit points, attack power, defense, and so on will certainly help! You’ll also obtain Link Points. The Link Points you collect can be spent at each character’s Skill Tree so that you can unlock skills and abilities that will make your life a bit easier. You can also unlock nodes that will upgrade your character’s stats. You can boost how much damage Danmaku deal. You can never have enough attack power, right? Unlock Vampire Slayer, and you’ll be able to deal more damage to vampire species enemies.
