Isle of Reveries from Penguin Pop Games, Electric Airship, and desertcucco is an old-school-inspired top-down adventure on Nintendo Switch. You’ll be taking on the role of Lief, an owl that must go on a pilgrimage to the titular Isle of Reveries, a dangerous location where it is said that any wish can be granted. Your journey will take you through six dungeons, each with a series of puzzles and different themes that evoke games of ages past. It’s a game that takes place in a world with anthropomorphic characters that you’ll meet as you explore the different biomes on offer. The good news? You won’t be doing this on your own, as you’ll be joined by a fairy companion with a very special ability.

desertcucco took Isle of Reveries to Kickstarter last year, seeking $25,000 in funding for the game’s development. Once the crowdfunding campaign was over, and thanks to the support of almost 1,300 backers, the project ended up with more than $46,000. Electric Airship jumped in as the game’s publisher, and that’s how Isle of Reveries landed on Nintendo Switch.

After the intro cutscene is over, you’ll be taking control of Lief by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad. Jump by pressing the R button. Use the A button to interact with objects or with the other characters that you meet. You can equip items using the B, X, and Y buttons. You’ll gain access to Clem’s Lantern early in the game. You can use it to illuminate dark areas or to start fires as needed.
Collect the Pilgrim’s Sword so that you can swing it at enemies. Obtain the Hero’s Gauntlet, and you’ll be able to use its strength to lift objects as well as push around blocks. There’s also the pictograph box, which you can equip to take photographs of the enemies that you fight against. This will add their information to the creature album, which will include if they drop any items.

Your fairy companion has access to magic that it can use to duplicate and spawn objects in the world, which you’ll need to make good use of in order to solve the different puzzles that Isle of Reveries will throw at you. Who knows, you might also be able to use her ability to aid you in combat as well! You will be able to store and create one object at a time, so choose wisely!
Interacting with the glowing owl statues that you find will allow you to save your progress, so that you can continue from there if you’re defeated. While visiting a glowing owl statue, you can also take a moment to equip some of the trinkets that you have collected so far during your adventure. These include, for instance,
During this pilgrimage, you’ll also be working on helping those you meet, all while you construct different buildings that will slowly but surely start to form a township where you’ll also be creating a community. As you save other characters during your mission, they will move into the township. Be sure to visit them so that you can learn more about them, as well as receive new quests for you to complete.
