Lorelei and the Laser Eyes from Annapurna Interactive and Simogo has now made its way to the Nintendo Switch 2. You’ve been invited by a man called Renzo Nero to visit Hotel Letzted Jahr, located somewhere in central Europe. The year is 1963, and it seems that he has a very peculiar and interesting project that requires your attention. This is all of the information you’re going to get for this experience, since the rest is to be revealed to you as you explore the aforementioned hotel and begin to unravel the mystery.

As you can tell from the trailer and screens in this Lorelei and the Laser Eyes review, the game predominantly uses black and white to present its characters, objects, and locations, with a bit of red thrown in here and there for good measure. This all helps to make the game pop on the screen, be that when playing on your TV at home, or while on the go on the console’s screen.

What’s different when comparing the Nintendo Switch version of Lorelei and the Laser Eyes and this new Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game? As expected, we’re getting a boost in the game’s resolution and framerate on Nintendo’s current-gen console. Thanks to this, we get 120 frames per second at a 1080p resolution when playing in Portable and Tabletop Mode. As for Docked Mode, we’re getting support for 120 frames per second at 1440p, and 60 frames per second at 4K resolution.

You’re not given any information when booting up the game, since you’ll be placed in control of your character right away after starting a new game. You’ll be taking control of your character by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad as you move through each location in search of valuable information. You can interact with objects, points of interest, or other characters by using the A, B, X, Y, L, ZL, R, or ZR buttons as needed, thanks to the contextual nature of said buttons. This is how you’ll start to piece together the puzzle that is your mind.

You’ll slowly but surely be making some progress by recovering what seem to be lost memories. You’ve apparently been blessed with photographic memory, so once you see something, you won’t ever forget it again. If you’re not near something or someone you can interact with, then pressing the A, B, X, or Y buttons will instead allow you to introspect.

When this happens, you can make good use of the aforementioned photographic memory to review every letter, document, note, or important piece of data that you’ve found during your time with Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. You can also review your current possessions, which are the items that you’ll use to solve the many, many puzzles that you’ll run into.

You can also take a look at the mental notes section. The mental notes section will keep track of everything that you do. Whenever you’re presented with a task, a note will be made and shown on the screen for a moment. After this happens, it will be made available in the mental notes section. There’s also the personal history section, which will keep track of the events that have occurred in the game in chronological order.

Once you locate a BYTES SEYES system, it will also show up when you introspect. What’s the BYTE SEYES system? The BYTE SEYES system is a portable device that starts with a handy calculator right away, but it can also use game cartridges that you can find while exploring the Hotel Letzted Jahr. You can collect money while exploring, and you can use it to order games once you find the phone number for this and have enough money. After a cartridge arrives, just pop it into your BYTES SEYES system and enjoy a game or two – or three! – within this game!

There are 150+ puzzles to solve during your time with the game, and since they can be tackled in a non-linear fashion – and they will also be randomized – talking about any of them here would take us into spoiler territory. Just pay attention to your surroundings, review all of the information you’ve gathered, and you’ll surely find what the next step to take should be. Oh, and don’t forget to use computers to save your progress! There’s no autosave feature, and since there are times when you can get a game over, saving is most certainly a must.
