DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered from KOEI TECMO America and Omega Force brings us a new take on the Musou classic. It’s a celebration of both DYNASTY WARRIORS 3 and DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Xtreme Legends, bringing the 40+ officers and the many battlefields to take on, revamped in Unreal Engine 5 to really bring to life the 1 vs. 1,000 experience for a Nintendo Switch 2 release. Those two games introduced some of the features we all know and love in later entries, such as True Musou Attacks, co-op play, and more.
The hack and slash known as DYNASTY WARRIORS 3 was originally released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2. It was so long ago that it was published by KOEI way before they merged with TECMO! This was followed by the expansion DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Xtreme Legends on PlayStation 2 a couple of years later, which added more characters, more items, more difficulty settings, and more of everything.

We’re certainly fans of the Dynasty Warriors series here, having reviewed a ton of games in the franchise over the years. the_nmac has reviewed the portable DYNASTY WARRIORS: Godseekers on the PlayStation Vita, as well as DYNASTY WARRIORS 8 Empires on Sony’s little portable console, the 10th anniversary celebration that is Samurai Warriors 4 on the PlayStation 3, as well as WARRIORS OROCHI 3 Ultimate on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita alongside Ceidz.
On top of those releases, ThaRaven403 reviewed Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate on PlayStation 4 in 2020, and Tracey got to review the Omega Force-developed and SQUARE ENIX-published Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below on PlayStation 4, which brings the franchise into Musou territory.

As for me? I got to work on a WARRIORS OROCHI 3 Ultimate review on PlayStation 4 back in 2014, as well as the spin-off release WARRIORS: Abyss on PlayStation 5 in 2025 with a Survivors-like. There’s also DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS, which I got to review earlier this year on Nintendo Switch 2.
How will you take care of the action on the screen after picking up a character? You’ll be using the left analog stick to rush through each battlefield, using the right analog stick to move the camera around as needed. You can lock onto an enemy in particular by pressing in on the right analog stick.

Jump by pressing the B button. Regular attacks will be mapped to the Y button, and charged attacks are set to the X button. Musou Attacks can be used by pressing the A button. Bow attacks can be used by pressing the R button and the X, Y, and A buttons. Guard against incoming attacks by pressing the L button, or try to evade attacks by pressing the ZR button. If you time it just right, you can perform a perfect guard or a perfect evade, depending on the action you’re performing. Toggle the map with the ZL button. Oh, and pressing in on the left analog stick will call a horse, so that you can travel at a much faster pace as well as use it to attack enemies.
Along with giving us the content from DYNASTY WARRIORS 3 and DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Xtreme Legends, there are also some new elements and additional content that make this the definite way of jumping into the world of DYNASTY WARRIORS 3 and its expansion. There are new scenarios that considerably bump up the difficulty to test your skills and abilities, a new officer in Ziluan, the protagonist from DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS (which you’ll need to unlock in DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered by completing Musou Mode for Zhao Yun, Xiahou Dun, and Zhou Yu), as well as a weapon fusion system for you to take for a spin.

The weapon fusion system can be used to take advantage of the weapons you no longer need so that they can be used to alter or enhance other weapons. Just select the weapon you want to boost and then select the weapons of the same type that you’ll want to sacrifice to enhance it. You won’t be able to use a weapon currently equipped by an officer, and only weapons of level 1 to 3 can be used.
