Neko Odyssey from Flyhigh Works and SECRET CHARACTER is a casual adventure game in which you will be working on taking pictures of cats in a 3D pixel art journey. You’ll be uploading these pictures to the in-game social media, as you aim to gain some new likes from netizens. The more likes you get, the better known you’ll be, and this can lead to your followers sharing tips on what new cat poses could help your photos shine. You’ll be doing all of this while also trying to unravel the mystery of this island in which cats are all over the place. Yes, it’s indeed known as Cat Island.

Your name is Miki, and you’ll be visiting your auntie who lives there. For most of the time, you won’t be able to just go around snapping pictures of all cats willy-nilly. You’ll first need to work on finding out what each cat likes, so that you can then take care of them and gain their trust. There are dozens of cats for you to take pictures of, so be sure to search everywhere!

After you start a Mew Game, and once the intro cutscene is over, you’ll be taking control of your character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad as you walk around each area you explore. You can also run if you press and hold down the B button. Interact with points of interest, objects, or other characters by pressing the A button.

Open up your map with the ZR button so that you can get a better idea of where everything is and where you’re currently located. That way, you’ll be able to easily see where your auntie’s house is, where you should run to get to the coffee shop, or what corner you need to turn to find the ramen restaurant, among other spots.

Press the X button to open up your backpack, which will act as your inventory storage. You can check everything in your backpack or use the L and R buttons to switch between the different category tabs. You should always have something on you to eat, because you’ll go hungry every now and then.

The money that you earn can be used to purchase new items at the different commercial locations you can locate around Cat Island. Or you can go and take a seat at the café and order some orange juice, an egg sandwich, and a parfait. That can really hit the spot! You can also go and grab a Tonkatsu Set Meal that will increase your stamina for 3 hours so that you can explore more. Buy yourself some bait and do some fishing on the side. You know, because you’re on an island and fishing is one of the main activities. And because cats allegedly love fish!

Once the day is over and the clock hits 10 p.m., you’ll need to either be back at your auntie’s home, or you’ll get sleepy and will magically materialize in your bed there. You’ll get a recap for the day’s results, which will show how many likes you got, how many new followers were added to your socials, the cat interactions you had, the new photos you took, and how much money you earned.

Oh, and did I mention that some cats will go out at different times of the day? This is why you need to make every minute count, since the cats that you can find while the sun is shining won’t be the same ones you can photograph once the moon hits your eyes like a big pizza pie. Neko Odyssey is out on Nintendo Switch with a $19.99 price tag.
