CloverPit from Future Friends Games and Panik Arcade is a roguelite experience in which you must pay off your debt or fall into ruin… quite literally! You have been placed inside a cell with a slot machine and an ATM, and must find a way to manipulate the slot machine to maximize how many coins you can earn. Obtain items that can allow you to trigger big combos that can complement your luck so that you can bend the rules in your favor.

While it’s a simple premise with an easy-to-understand gameplay loop, there are plenty of ways for you to change how you approach each run. There are 150+ items and synergies for you to trigger, so you’ll be able to learn from your mistakes as you mic and match items and find the best ones that suit your playing style and overall strategy. No, you won’t have access to all of them from the start, but you’ll be able to unlock them as you progress further and further.

CloverPit Review - 1

You have a debt to repay, so you’ll need to deposit the coins that you collect into the ATM. You have a set number of rounds for obtaining enough coins to cover it… or you’ll be dropped into the pit. At the end of each round, you’ll also earn interest based on how many coins you’ve deposited. If you manage to cover your current debt early, then you’ll be rewarded with 4 Clover Tickets for each round left.

There’s a slot machine right in front of you, and you will need to decide how many coins you’ll spend to spin its reels in each round. For each round that you complete, you’ll be rewarded with a single Clover Ticket. Sometimes, you’ll get to obtain more Clover Tickets under certain conditions. What are Clover Tickets?

Clover Tickets can be spent to purchase Lucky Charms, which are located to your left in your room. Lucky Charms are very important, since they can considerably improve your odds of survival. Lucky Charms can be of the common, uncommon, and legendary variety. The Lucky Charms store will restock at no cost when you manage to deposit the required coins at the ATM. You can also restock them by spending your hard-earned coins.

Some examples of Lucky Charms include the Lost Briefcase, which immediately earns you 30% of the debt amount; the Red Pepper, which will randomly trigger a +5 boost to your luck for the current spin, and it will be discarded after 12 activations; the Lucky Cat, which, whenever a 3+ pattern triggers during a spin, will earn you money equal to your current interest, to name some example.

How can you earn coins during each spin? You’ll need to get enough icons to match the different prize patterns. These include short horizontal, diagonal, or vertical patterns of three icons, long and extra long horizontal patterns, a zig or a zag pattern, an above or a below pattern, an eye pattern, and the biggest one: the jackpot! Each one will have a different prize multiplier applied to that spin, going from a x1 pattern for the first three examples up to a x10 pattern for the jackpot.

On top of this, the symbols you get for each pattern will have a different coin value, as well as a luck rate for how easy it is to get said icons. The values start at two coins for lemons and cherries, go up to three coins for four-leaf clovers and bells, are increased to five coins for diamonds and treasure chests, and then the value jumps to seven coins for, you guessed it, lucky sevens.

This one features an in-game achievement system for you to work on as you play and try to survive. You know, if you want to 100% the game. Some of the achievements that you can unlock include obtaining a jackpot for the first time, depositing 1,000,000 coins, obtaining 100 or more Clover Tickets, landing 15 patterns or more in a single spin, increasing your interest to 30% or more, getting a 666, and escaping from the room.

Oh, and did I mention that the cost to play the slot machine will increase after every deadline?

The more you play, the more Lucky Charms you’ll unlock for subsequent runs, so that you can buy them with the Clover Tickets you earn and then find the right combination of Lucky Charms that can help you. How can you unlock new ones? One will unlock after you die 3 times. Another one can unlock by manually restocking the store 30 times during a single run. You can get another Lucky Charm by getting a pattern with exactly 5 diamonds or 5 treasure chests.

Along with playing the game’s main story mode – and aiming to get the different endings – you can also take on Endless Mode, as you aim to get the highest score possible. CloverPit launches tomorrow on Nintendo Switch 2 with a $9.99 price tag. There’s also a Nintendo Switch version. As expected, the Nintendo Switch 2 version features a better overall performance, an increased max resolution, as well as mouse control support.
