Rat Protocol from eastasiasoft and Pufferfish Digital is a top-down puzzler in which you take on the role of a rodent that has been injected with an experimental serum. It’s thanks to this serum that you’re now able to stand on two legs as you walk around each of the 50 puzzles that the game has to offer. Your objective for each one is simple: collect all keycards and open the door to the next level. New elements are introduced at a steady pace to switch how you approach things, such as lasers that can burn down boxes, TNT boxes that will go BOOM, and even teleporters that will instantly move you to your destination.

Rat Protocol Review - 1

Pushing a box to block a laser is a good strategy, but you need to pay attention to what type of box you’re pushing, or else it might burn down and leave you completely exposed! At times, it might seem as if there is more than one solution to a puzzle… and you would be correct! While some puzzles will require a specific sequence of actions to be taken, others are a bit more flexible, allowing you to use solutions that might not be apparent right away.

Given the game’s premise, the controls are going to be simple and to the point. You’ll be using the left analog stick or the D-Pad to control your rodent as you push around boxes or move batteries into place to power up the lasers and other contraptions that you’ll be using to solve the dozens of puzzles that the game will throw at you.

Trophy-wise, since this one is from eastasiasoft, that means we’re getting a Cross-Buy title, so you’ll be able to download the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game to your PS5 console, and each one will have its own trophy list for you to work on. Each list will be split into 2 Bronze trophies, 7 Silver trophies, and 9 Gold trophies for you to work on. What will you need to do to add this shiny Platinum trophy to your collection?

Trophies will pop as you collect 3 different keycards in the same level, keep 3 different gates open at the same time, blow up a battery, burn a wooden crate with a laser, create a holographic clone, use a teleporter, slide across an icy floor, grab a keycard using your closen, igniting a TNT box with a laser, creating a path over acid, throw an object into a bottomless pit, completing 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 levels, and finally escaping from the lab.
