Birushana: Winds of Fate from Idea Factory International brings us a set of new stories that take place after the events of the prequel’s journey. You’ll get to see how protagonist Shanoa is doing with each of the romantic suitors from Birushana: Rising Flower of Genpei, as well as even get a chance to go back in time and take on some “What if…?” scenarios in which you open yourself to love with four other characters.

I previously had a chance to do a Birushana: Rising Flower of Genpei review on Nintendo Switch back in 2022, and I greatly enjoyed the experience, so I was definitely up for checking out what happened after the events from that game. The stories follow up directly after the events from the previous game, so playing that one in full is certainly recommended so that you can get the most out of Birushana: Winds of Fate, and also learn about the Love Catch system. This particular release is what is known as a fan disc in the visual novel genre.
Think of a fan disc as some extra content aimed at those who really liked a particular visual novel, thus expanding on the original story, branching paths, and romantic suitors, to, in a way, provide “more of the same” as a thank you to fans. Another example of this would be visual novel Norn9: Last Era, which I reviewed in 2023.

Along with the return of the five romantic suitors from Birushana: Rising Flower of Genpei – that would be Yoritomo Minamoto, Tomomori Taira, Noritsune Taira, Benkei Musashibo, and Shungen Minamoto – the four characters you’ll be able to dive into the “What if…?” new routes are for Shigehira Taira, Tsugunobu Sato, his brother, Tadanobu Sato, and Takatsuna Sasaki.
Shigehira Taira is the fifth child of Kiyomori Taira and brother of Tomomori. He is a bit of a sadist who cherishes combat and the blood spilled on the battlefield. Tsugunobu Sato is a highly regarded samurai in service of the Fujiwara clan of Oshu. He joins Shanao on her journey, vowing to serve her with his life if needed. Tadanobu Sato is brave to a fault, inspiring allies and making enemies shiver in fear. He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he’s a charming young individual. The last one is Takatsuna Sasaki, son of Hideyoshi Sasaki, who once served under Yoritomo and Shanao’s father. He’s the youngest of the bunch, but has shown great skills on the battlefield and is always ready to bring a smile to Shanao’s face.

Birushana: Winds of Fate brings us a set of new stories that take place after the events of the prequel’s journey. All five epilogues for the main romantic suitors from Birushana: Rising Flower of Genpei will expand on the happy ending for each of their routes in that game. As for the four new main routes for this fan disc experience, your choices will dictate if you reach their happy or tragic end during each journey.
