After barely managing to escape from the Kensdale Public Library, you must now explore the abandoned Hameln facilities. Amanda the Adventurer 3 Review - 1

I previously had a chance to work on a Nintendo Switch Amanda the Adventurer review back in 2023, and I enjoyed my time with the game as I went from VHS to VHS, marveling at the 1990s-inspired CGI graphics for the Amanda the Adventurer show and its tongue-in-cheek nod to the Dora the Explorer series, so I was definitely up for checking out how it would all end.

If you’re new to the Amanda the Adventurer series, then here’s a quick recap. As mentioned before, your name is Riley Park, and you inherited your late Aunt Kate’s house. It was there that you found a bunch of classic VHS tapes in the attic, all for old TV episodes of the titular show. While watching the tapes, everything seemed normal for a kids TV show from 25+ years ago… but that’s when things started to get weird. It turns out that Amanda and her companion, Wooly the sheep, were directly communicating with you! It’s then that the horror elements kick in.

Amanda the Adventurer 3 Switch 2 Review - 2

Since this is the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game we’re dealing with, you’re probably wondering if there are any differences when comparing it to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. As expected, we’re getting a better framerate on Nintendo Switch 2, as well as a higher resolution. This is why there’s a difference in the game’s download sizes on each console, with the Nintendo Switch version being 5.9 GB and the Nintendo Switch 2 version being 7.8 GB.

Once the intro cutscene is over, you’ll be taking control of your character by using the left analog stick to move around, as you use the right analog stick to control the camera as needed. You can sprint by pressing in on the left analog stick, and you can crouch by pressing in on the right analog stick. You can interact by pressing the A button. That way, you’ll be able to try to open doors, collect important items, and so on. When watching a videotape, you’ll need to press the B button to pause the action so that you can use what you’ve learned to solve a puzzle.

Talking about the different puzzles that you’ll run into would certainly ruin this bite-sized experience, but, in order to give you an idea of what to expect, allow me to discuss one part of the prologue segment. After using an employee card to enter a restricted area, you’ll find yourself in front of a TV and a VCR, where you can insert a tape. This will play a segment of the TV show in which Amanda and Wolly are working on finding all of the items listed for a scavenger hunt. First up is a purple hydrant, which they quickly locate. Next up is a door with three windows… and it’s then that a security protocol kicks in.

After rushing to the previous room, one can notice that the containment cases have different icons on their LCD displays, and that’s when it all makes sense: one of the cases has an icon with a door that has three windows! By following the cable connected to it, it’s possible to find the switch that needs to be activated to try and reset the security protocol. Since that single switch didn’t remove the alarm, that means it’s time to continue watching the VHS tape for the next hint. After all hints are used, the prologue will end, and the story will return to the present time, 10 years later after the series of events that sealed the fate of so many.
