MYST Remake from Cyan Worlds brings us a revamped and reimagined take on the adventure classic. Once your new adventure begins, you’ll be tasked with exploring the titular location – that would be Myst Island – as you locate the items needed to solve the different puzzles you’ll be presented with. Doing so will allow you to travel through the different worlds – known as Ages – on offer. There’s definitely a lot to uncover and a larger mystery to unravel during your time with MYST Remake… but I’m not going to be spoiling that here!
It’s a point and click adventure game that’s part of many “Best Games of All Time” lists. It’s been ported to many, many consoles over the years, including the SEGA Saturn, the Atari Jaguar, Sony’s PlayStation – a version that you can play right now on your PlayStation 5 either by buying it right here or by taking advantage of your PlayStation Plus Premium subscription – the Philips CD-i, Sony’s PlayStation Portable, the Nintendo DS, as well as the Nintendo 3DS. The Nintendo Switch even got the realMyst: Masterpiece Edition version of the game in 2020. It’s now 2026, and 30+ years after its original release, we’re getting a completely new take on the beloved experience after its 2021 launch on Steam.
Since the game is played from a first-person perspective, you’ll be taking control of your character by using the left analog stick, as you use the right analog stick to look around you as needed. You can press in on the left analog stick to toggle between walking and running. Pressing in on the right analog stick will allow you to quickly turn around. As you explore each area, you’ll be able to interact with objects or points of interest by using the X or R2 buttons. These buttons will also allow you to grab items. The L1 and R1 buttons are contextual buttons that will perform different actions based on the current scenario. They can also be used to flip to get a better look at things.
Trophy-wise, this remake includes a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to try to add to your collection. The list is split into 15 Bronze trophies, 6 Silver trophies, and 9 Gold trophies for you to work on. What will you need to do for that shiny Platinum trophy? Every single trophy in the list is of the secret variety, and talking about them here could end up spoiling the experience. I’ll only say that there are trophies tied to reaching each of the different Ages in the game. As for the rest? You’ll have to play the game to find out what their requirements are!

You get to choose between the Classic Mode and Randomized Mode before starting a new run. Classic Mode will have puzzles mirror those from the original 1993 release of MYST. If you’re familiar with the game, then you can go with Randomized Mode, which will bump up the challenge, since, even if you’re familiar with MYST, you won’t be able to rely on your memory – or in puzzle guides for the original game – to solve the different puzzles that you’ll run into.
You can also customize your experience by choosing to activate Performance Mode from the settings menu, which will disable features such as ray tracing to bump the overall framerate. There’s also the option of enjoying the game in different languages, thanks to the localized user interface and dialogue, as well as the optional subtitles. MYST Remake launches tomorrow on PlayStation 5. And if you want to check the version of MYST on the original PlayStation console from back in 1996, then you can play it right now with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription at no extra cost, or by buying the PS1 game for only $5.99.
