[PS4Blog.net Interview] Mommy’s Best Games On ChainStaff

by EdEN, Owner

We’ll be working on a review for ChainStaff, so I got in touch with Nathan Fouts at Mommy’s Best Games to talk a bit about the game and its development. Come check it out!

PS4Blog: Morning! Good to have you back here. How are you doing?

It’s great to be back. I’m doing great! We have my newest game, ChainStaff, ready to go on all systems, and it comes out this Wednesday, April 8th. Plus, it’s Easter Sunday! Family, egg hunts, candy, and springtime flowers. It’s a great time!

PS4B: It’s been a while since we had a chance to talk about Weapon of Choice DX, and now you’re ready for the launch of your latest game: ChainStaff! What can you tell us about this game?

ChainStaff is an action platformer with a transforming grappling hook. If you like Bionic Commando, Mega Man X, Shadow of the Beast, or fighting really weird aliens, I think you’re gonna like it! You play as Jesse Varlette, a soldier who was on the front lines to stop the invading Star Spores, and was taken over by an alien. That alien now sits on top of your head, making you look like a sort of centipede man, and yet it gives super strength. It also allows you to control the ChainStaff, a sentient alien vertebrae that you can throw like a spear, swing on like a grappling hook, use as a shield, bridge, and even more. Together, you try to drive back the Star Spores, but you also need to find out. Can you stay human and get this alien off your head? Or will you succumb to its secret whispers and start eating your friends?!

PS4B: Unlike previous games you first released on Steam and then ported to consoles, this new release is launching on the same date on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5. What led you to make this choice?

We had the technology, we had the team, and we wanted to make the biggest splash possible. It’s a little tricky supporting both Nintendo Switch 1 and Nintendo Switch 2, PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and Steam, but we are doing it. Please get the game on your favorite (or all??) platforms! ChainStaff is also “Verified” on Steam Deck!

PS4B: Are you considering bringing Bumpy Grumpy to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5?

That would be really cool! We currently don’t have a plan to do it, just a dream. But I think it would fit well on Switch or Steam Deck for sure.

PS4B: Once again, thank you for taking the time to do this interview. Anything else you might want to add before we go?

Thank you for inviting me. Please check out ChainStaff, coming this Wednesday. I think it does some really neat stuff with level design, in that the levels are able to be unlocked in different orders depending on how you explore the game. Plus, if you like classic rock or heavy metal, the soundtrack is massive and incredible! I think it fits right alongside classic Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Black Sabbath. If you want to talk games or classic rock, head over to the Discord!
