Shooty McSpaceFace from Penguin Pop Games and Brad Erkkila is a 2D action game in which you’ll be working on protecting and taking back your space base. Many bosses and their minions have invaded the base, and it’s now up to you to make the most of your available gear as you run, jump, and shoot your way through every single monster on your path. You’ll have a main weapon, shields to protect you, and even a special attack that can help to turn the tide of battle.
Because of all this, the controls are going to be simple and to the point. You’ll move with the left analog stick or the D-Pad, jumping by pressing the B button. Press the ZL button to aim as you shoot your laser canon with the ZR button. You need to be careful, because the laser canon can overheat! Special attacks can be unleashed by pressing the Y button to gain the upper hand, but their cooldown will increase the more you use them. You can deploy shields to protect yourself by pressing the A button.
You’ll be tracking your progress in each zone toward being able to fight against the big bad boss in the area by checking the bar in the upper part of the screen. You can use this menu to also switch to different character models, as well as spend your hard-earned crystals – that would be the in-game currency – to purchase new special attacks, as well as add a series of enhancements that will allow you to gain an edge over your opponents.
Along with the Plasma Orb special attack you start with, the additional special attacks include, for example, a landmine, or a pair of heat-seeking missiles. As for the enhancements, you can unlock stronger shields, increase the number of shields you can deploy, boost max ammo, increase your overall health, add an extra life, or boost the power of your laser cannon. Once unlocked, you can equip up to two enhancements at a time.

The game has 59 levels to offer, split across 6 different zones, and that means there are 6 bosses for you to defeat. Along with the game’s Story Mode, there’s also Arena Mode, where you will have to defeat a set number of enemies, or else it’s game over! Shooty McSpaceFace is out on Nintendo Switch with a $5.99 price tag.
