I Am Future from tinyBuild and Mandragora brings us a cozy apocalypse survival game on Nintendo Switch. It’s the end of the world as we know it, and you’re going to have to find a way to build the best camp possible given the circumstances. You are, after all, the last person on Earth! You’ll start from scratch on an abandoned rooftop and will slowly but surely build and expand over the area. You’ll work on unlocking new buildings and decorations to make everything feel more lively, as you chill while the world around you crumbles into pieces. It’s time to make your time at Cosmopolis the best one possible!
You’ll be playing through this one by picking between Robin or Chris, and you will be able to customize your character to better reflect how it might feel to be the last person on the planet. The feature is a bleak yet colorful place, and it’s full of ancient artifacts from ages past. You’ve woken up from hibernation after 6 years, 6 months, and 5 days, and will need to work on collecting as many as you can so that you can disassemble them and use the parts to craft useful items. This game started its journey on Steam Early Access in 2023, and it’s now time to enjoy the 1.0 release.

You can pick between three levels of coziness for your time with I Am Future: Normal, Cozy, and Domestic. The Normal level of coziness will have you taking on the regular survival gameplay mechanics, making it the standard experience. The Cozy level of coziness will make it so that electrosites don’t eat the plants in your garden beds, while satiety will decrease twice as slowly. As for the Domestic level of coziness, it makes it so that you don’t lose health when your satiety drops to zero, while your satiety decreases 4 times slower.
There’s also the possibility of pressing the Y button so that you can tailor your experience. That way, you can select the hunger onset speed between standard, slow, and very slow, the amount of weeds from high, average, to almost none, the amount of leehces from standard, less, and almost none, the leech behavior from eat crops to don’t eat crops, the contamination damage from standard, low, and no damage, and the hunger damage from standard, low, and no damage.

You can change up your character’s look as you see fit. Once you interact with the suitcase in the starting area, you can pick from the different skin colors and faces, as well as the hairstyles, facial hair, eyebrows, and eyes. Along with finding extra variations along the way, there are also some clothes for you to add to your collection, including t-shirts, shorts, jeans, and footwear.
Once the intro cutscene is over, the game will kindly send you into a tutorial where you’ll be able to learn the basics. As your new life begins, you’ll be taking control of your character by using the left analog stick, as you move the camera around by using the right analog stick. You can also move the camera by pressing and holding down the L and R buttons as you zoom in and out by using the ZL and ZR buttons as needed. Interact with objects and robots by pressing the A button.
Any items that you collect will be added to your inventory, which you can open up by pressing the Y button. If you need a refresher on what you’re currently working on and what you’ll need to take care of, you can open your notepad by pressing the X button. You will starve if you don’t eat regularly. Remember that you were in hibernation for a while, so you’re desperately in need of some nutrients. Keep an eye on your health and satiety bars. You can sleep to heal yourself and keep from falling unconscious. You can eat to feel fuller so that your satiety doesn’t reach zero. If that happens, you will start taking damage.

Press the – button to open up the construction menu. From there, you’ll be able to pick a structure that you want to build, so that you can then decide on what spot you should build it. Once that’s been taken care of, you’ll need to bring the materials needed for said structure. You’ll start easy enough with a campfire to build so that you can keep warm and cook items.
You won’t be able to do everything on your own… which is why it’s great that you’ll be able to have a team of robot-minions to aid you here and there to automate some of the chores that need to be taken care of around the camp. This is a big apocalyptic new world, and that means there are plenty of locations that you won’t be able to reach on your own. But what if you send some scouting drones? Oh, and you should keep an eye out for the mutants that are ready to wreak havoc on your camp, trying to damage the electrical grid or your precious crops!
There are other robots for you to meet during your time with I Am Future, with whom you can share your free time. The first one you’ll meet will be ECOmate, a robot designed ot help you reuse resources. You can use said resources to purchase useful items. Another one is Earl, a talking fridge who is more than happy to talk to you after you insert a fresh battery to power it up.
