Cronos: The New Dawn from Bloobler Team brings us a third-person sci-fi Rated M for Mature survival horror experience on Nintendo Switch 2. After working alongside Konami for the Silent Hill 2 remake, the studio is back with their own original IP in a package that pays homage to the classics in the survival horror genre. You’re going to get some Silent Hill vibes here, some Resident Evil vibes over there, as well as a good dose of Dead Space thrown in for good measure. Are you ready to dive in?
The game will place you in the role of the Traveler, and you will need to find a way to locate what is needed in the past to be able to fight for the future. The game takes place in a world in which The Change changed humanity’s fate… but maybe not forever! You work for the Collective, and your first task will be to find the previous Traveler who had been sent on a mission. As you work on this, you’ll soon find out how everything and everyone has mutated into deadly entities that are out for blood. You’ll have to locate the time rifts needed to go back in time to 1980s-era Poland.

Traveling back in time is needed in order for you to use your Harvester to extract their essences, so that you can bring them to the future. Unfortunately, the more essences you carry with you, the more haunted your temporal shell will become. This will grant you more power, but it will also make you listen to some weird whispers and witness some odd… things around you.
Once you begin your journey, you’ll be taking control of the Traveler by using the left analog stick as you use the right analog stick to look around and aim as needed. You can interact by pressing the A button. Press the ZL button and then shoot your current weapon by pressing the ZR button. The ZR button can also be used to perform a stomp, which is a good option for dealing some extra damage to enemies you’ve managed to send down to the ground. You can also perform a melee attack by pressing the R button. Reload your weapon by pressing the Y button.

Switch between weapons by using the D-Pad. You can press and hold down a direction on the D-Pad to quickly craft ammo for the corresponding weapon, as long as you have enough of the required resources. Open up your inventory by pressing the – button so that you can review what you’re currently carrying. You can press the X button to heal a bit of your wounds by using a patch in your inventory. Oh, and you can also press the L button to use the small tank on your suit to light up a small fire.
You should always try to burn the enemies you defeat, or else they will end up making your life miserable. Why? Because the enemies that are still alive can move toward the dead body, absorb their biomass and merge, and end up evolving and becoming a very powerful – and even deadlier – monster that will certainly pack a punch with every hit it manages to land.

You’ll later be able to interact with temporal anomalies to build new paths for you to take. As long as you can find where the anomaly is located, you’ll be able to aim at it and use your tool to interact with the anomaly to maybe rebuild a path, bring a platform down, or use the anomaly to bring a platform back up.
Resources are very limited, so you’ll need to make the most of the weapon modules, ammo, and other items that you do manage to get your hands on. Your inventory space is also extremely small, so you’ll need to decide which items to carry with you at all times and which ones you should leave in storage. Or, you know, you should spend some Cores to upgrade your storage space.

Cores are special items that are very limited. They can be used to upgrade the Traveler’s shell to get additional health, increase the storage space, or increase how many crafting resources you can carry with you. Crafting items are crucial since you can use them to craft additional ammo for your weapon modules, shell patches to heal a bit of your wounds, or fuel so that you can ignite biomass or the dead bodies of the enemies that you have managed to defeat.
You can find items that grant you Energy while exploring each area, either out in the open or by smashing the boxes that you find along the way. Enemies will also drop a bit of Energy. You can spend your hard-earned Energy when you manage to reach a safe room. Energy can be used to improve a weapon module’s firepower, reload speed, stability, charge speed, and clip size. You can also spend Energy to purchase consumables, such as the aforementioned ammo and shell patches.
