Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter Review

Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter

The opening cutscene for sequel Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter will set things up for you. Many years ago, deadly winged creatures made their way through the frozen North, leaving a stench of death behind. The Darkwings were out for blood, and if not for the bravery of the Warden and warriors at Winter’s Edge, tragedy would have struck the entire land.

Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter Review

As time went on, the story of how the brave warriors of Winter’s Edge eradicated the Darkwings ended up turning into nothing more than a vague memory, almost shared as if it was nothing more than a fairy’s tail. Unfortunately, the Darkwings had been regrouping and expanding at Mount Cauldron, waiting for the right time to strike. Hope is not lost since King Rattus himself brought a young bastard Prince to the North, leaving him under the care of the Warden of the Wastes to raise in secret as if he were his own. You are Arlo, the aforementioned bastard Prince, and it’s now time for you to write your own story…

Lost Records Bloom & Rage Review

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage

In Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, your journey will take you through a story that unfolds over two timelines 27 years apart, one in 1995 and the other in 2022. During the 1990s timeline, four high school girls forge tight bonds during one particular Summer. This is thanks to their friendship, the punk band they formed…. and a peculiar event that would shape their future.

Lost Records Bloom & Rage Review - 2

You’ll be taking on the role of Swann Holloway in the sleepy little town of Velvet Cove, Michigan. You’re about to find out who you are and what you’re really made of since every choice that you make along the way will have consequences. This is something you’ll experience early in the game when your mom calls you after you arrive at Velvet Cove 27 years after the events of that one Summer of 1995. The choices made during conversations will not only shape the past and the future – sometimes creating a butterfly effect that will change what is going on in the year 2022, they will also affect Swann’s relationship with Nat, Nora, and Autumn.

Sniper Elite: Resistance Review

Sniper Elite: Resistance

Sniper Elite: Resistance brings us a new take on the beloved franchise. This time around, Special Operations Executive (SOE) agent Harry Hawker will be taking on the lead role on a mission that takes place in parallel to the story for Sniper Elite 5. While Karl Fairbune is busy elsewhere, you’ll have to take on a different type of war that takes place away from the front lines in occupied France. Hawker has discovered that the Nazis have a new Wunderwaffe, a weapon so powerful that it could end up tilting the scale in Germany’s favor. You’ll have to work alongside the French resistance to destroy it before it’s too late.

Sniper Elite: Resistance Review - 5

On top of the main story campaign, you’ll also get a chance to dive straight into the work of the French Resistance, thanks to the new Propaganda missions. These will be activated when you manage to locate the different Propaganda posters spread around the main campaign. These are shorter missions with time-sensitive objectives that will require you to be quiet, quick, and deadly as you sneak around each area to take down the enemy in hopes of ending the Nazi occupation.

Monster Train 2 Review

Monster Train 2

This one takes place after the events of the previous game, with an unlikely alliance taking place between the forces of heaven and those from hell. There are new clans, new cards, new items, and new challenges to take on, with a way of changing the overall difficulty to allow gamers of different skill levels to take on this one.

After heaven’s attempt to defeat the forces from hell goes terribly wrong, the mighty Seraph decides to search for new ways to increase its power to be able to destroy the demons. Unfortunately, this ends up freeing the mighty Titans, who end up invading heaven. This is why an alliance is formed between angels and demons to try and defeat the Titans and Seraph before they completely conquer heaven and hell. Can the former foes find some common ground in order to work together? As you use the newly forged trains, you’ll take units from two clans to try and get the job done. You’ll have to journey through hell, heaven, and the abyss before you’re able to take down the Titans.

Monster Train 2 Review - 6

There’s also a bigger focus on the story side of the equation, with cutscenes taking place at the Covenant Outpost, where characters from the different clans will interact as the story unfolds. You will also get a chance to unlock additional Pyre Hearts for the train. Each new Pyre heart will have different values for its attack and HP stats, while also offering a new element to consider. You could, for example, end up unlocking a Pyre Heart that allows you to spend your hard-earned coins at merchants to copy a card in your deck, which can allow you to craft a more powerful deck with cards that can pack a punch.

Dispatch Review

Dispatch

Dispatch brings us a story-driven, Rated M for Mature episodic experience on PlayStation 5. This one is a superhero workplace comedy set in modern-day Los Angeles. You’ll be placed in the role of one Robert Robertson III – AKA Mecha Man – who must take on a new gig after his mech-suit is destroyed in combat against his nemesis. This will, unfortunately, lead you to take on a desk job at the superhero dispatch center. Yes, this does mean that you’re no longer going to be working as a hero and will need to make the most of your previous experience to be the best dispatcher you can be at the Superhero Dispatch Network – that would be the SDN.

Dispatch PlayStation Review - 3

The twist of it all? You’ll be dispatching not superheroes but a team of former supervillains who aim for a shot at redemption. You’ll need to balance the group of new wannabe heroes as you navigate office relationships and romances, all while trying to have a life of your own. Every choice you make matters, and they will have an impact on how the story for each episode – and the twists for future episodes – will unravel. The studio includes members who used to be part of Telltale Games, so while this is their first game as AdHoc Studio, this doesn’t mean they don’t know what they’re doing.

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion Review

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion brings us an intergalactic pixeltastic beat ’em up. Annihilus, the living death that walks, aims to destroy the cosmos so that it can live. With the entire universe at stake, you’ll need to pick a pair of characters from the extensive MARVEL catalog, as you use their abilities to save the day. With 15 playable characters – including Spider-Man, Wolverine, She-Hulk, Captain America, Phoenix, Black Panther, Storm, Iron Man, Rocket Raccoon, Beta Ray Bill, Venom, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Nova, Phyla-Vell, and the Silver Surfer – you’ll certainly manage to find a favorite or two.

MARVEL Cosmic Invasion Review - 3

For this important mission, you’ll need to pick two superheroes that will join forces as you use the Cosmic Swag tag-team system in each of the levels that MARVEL Cosmic Invasion has to offer. You’ll be able to instantly switch between them at the press of a button, as you make the most of their individual skills and abilities, all while you combo your way to victory.

After the fantastic hand-drawn animated intro that presents you with all of the heroes you’ll be able to choose from – as well as the big bosses you’ll be fighting against – you’ll get to pick between two game modes: Campaign and Arcade. Campaign Mode is going to be the main draw for most, giving you a chance to explore all playable characters as you progress through the game’s story, which features voice acting for the different characters. As for Arcade Mode, it brings to the table a more classic beat ’em up experience, with limited lives and continues and no save progression.

Neon Inferno Review

Neon Inferno

Neon Inferno brings us a pixeltastic 2D cyberpunk run ‘n’ gun/gallery shooter. It’s December 2054, and you’re an assassin who works for the Family, a notorious New York syndicate. This means that your enemies are the NYPD and the Yakuza! You’ll be able to play as Angelo Morano and Mariana Vitti, as you work on taking down the different targets that the Family has prepared for you. First up? Tatsuya Oda, who has been spotted at Irving Holo-Park.

Neon Inferno Review - 1

The game offers three difficulty settings: Novice, Medium, and Hard. If you pick the Novice difficulty setting, then enemy patterns will be simplified and your character’s health will be boosted. The Medium difficulty setting will allow you to have a bit of extra health, enemy patterns will be slightly simplified, and there will be additional checkpoints. As for the Hard difficulty setting, it’s pretty much identical to Arcade Mode, with a challenge that is bumped up to 11, but you’ll still be able to make the most of some of the checkpoints.

As you work on completing each mission, you’ll be rated based on your performance. You can get up to a five-star rating for each job, and you will be paid for your efforts accordingly. You’ll start with a base reward for each mission, and can obtain some bonuses or incur some penalties that will add or take some money away from your final pay. You can use this money at GunSlingers to buy weapons and items to aid you. Add a Slash Wave for $7,500. Get a Rapid Shot for a cool $15,000. Or maybe you want a powerful Plasma Shield for a whopping $17,500!

Atomfall Review

Atomfall

Atomfall is a survival-action game inspired by real-life events and is set five years after the Windscale nuclear disaster in Northern England. This disaster took place on October 10, 1957, and it was certainly the worst nuclear accident in the United Kingdom’s history and one of the worst ones ever worldwide. The nuclear fire burned for three days straight, releasing its dangerous radioactive fallout that ended up spreading across the UK and Europe. That is the basis for the scenario in Atomfall, in which the consequences of the nuclear disaster are far, far worse.

The area was walled off, and all communications with the outside world were cut. The quarantine zone is a big unknown, and you’re about to find out what is going on. You wake up inside an abandoned bunker with no recollection of who you are or how you ended up inside of said bunker in the first place. While you’ll be able to find some more quaint locations, that’s not going to usually be the case during your time with Atomfall. Being cut off from the rest of the world for five years has definitely… changed the people in the quarantine zone. Most have gotten a bit, shall we say, eccentric with their way of life. There are now factions that are trying to run things, and danger can lurk around every corner. You’ll interact with the Protocol, B.A.R.D. (British Atomic Research Division), the Outlaws, and the Druids.

Atomfall Review - 2

Because of this, you’re going to have to scavenge for supplies in order to survive. And since you’re not the only person trying to get their hands on any of the available resources. You’ll also have to make the most of the stuff you do find so that you can craft the items and weapons needed to stay alive as you take on the different factions as well as on the rather large mutated creatures from the radiation. Short-range weapons are going to be a more viable option most of the time since ammo is going to be a bit scarce. You’ll be able to find a pistol or two early in the game but might not have enough ammo to fully reload them. You could find a single-shot rifle that deals more damage, but it is, you know, single-shot, so you could leave yourself wide open if you decide to use it against a group of Outlaws.

Baby Steps Review

Baby Steps

Baby Steps brings us a very peculiar type of game. The official copy for the game does a good job of setting up the overall premise for this journey, so here it goes:

Play as Nate, an unemployed failson with nothing going for him, until one day he discovers a power he never knew he had… putting one foot in front of the other.

You’ll be jumping into the role of Nate himself, a 35-year-old good fr nothing stepping into a challenging world full of elements unknown to you. Things will start off chill enough as you try to walk through the mountains, marveling at the backdrops and letting everything sink in. It’s then that the physics-based gameplay will punch you in the face. As you can tell from the trailer in this Baby Steps review, every step counts, and the odds of you nailing each step perfectly from start to finish are pretty much slim to none. There’s going to be a lot of trial and error in your future if you aim to roll credits on this one!

Baby Steps PS5 Review - 4

As you raise your left foot and lean forward, you’ll have to quickly put your right foot forward so that you don’t faceplank. Odds are, you’re going to be spending a lot of time on the floor during the first handful of minutes playing the game as you try to get the hang of things. Nate is most definitely a useless human being at the start of this journey. Will he find a way to redeem himself by the end?

Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile Review

Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile

Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile brings us a new take on the beloved author’s intriguing mystery novel. Your adventure will begin at the Chez ma Tante nightclub in London, where you’ll meet up with Mr. Blondin, near the bar. If the nightclub’s name rings a bell but you’re sure it’s supposed to be a restaurant, then you’re not alone! While the original story took place in the 1970s, this new release reimagines things by transporting us to the 1970s. If you’ve read the original Death on the Nile novel, then you can probably imagine how moving everything 4 decades forward can end up giving the whole thing a very different feel, while also being familiar to fans. The previous game from Microids – that would be Agatha Christie – Murder on the Orient Express – took that mystery novel and brought the story into the present day by setting it in 2023.

Agatha Christie – Death on the Nile Review - 4

The game will be using the source material as its basis, but will make some… artistic choices here and there to provide us with an experience that feels new and fresh, even for those of us who have read Death on the Nile dozens of times. Along with the new 1970s setting, you’ll quickly notice this when you’re introduced to Jane Royce, who happens to be one of your biggest fans, having inspired her to become a private detective. Jane will be the second character that you’ll be able to play as during your time with Death on the Nile.

Stay tuned! Our roundup of the best PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 games of the year will be going live soon!

In the meantime, we want to hear from you:
