StarLightRiders: HyperJump from eastasiasoft and LunarCitySeven brings us an old-school-style bullet hell on PlayStation 5. The premise is simple: you need to defend Earth from an alien invasion, and you will have to take control of the titular HyperJump spaceships to save the day before it’s too late. You’ll have a wide shot attack, a powerful concentrated beam, a mighty bomb that can destroy all the bullets within its range, and the ability to warp around the screen. There are five stages to complete, with a huge boss at the end of each one, ready to end each of your three lives. You can take on this one on your own or take advantage of the local co-op option.

The controls are simple and to the point. You’ll be piloting your spaceship by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad, shooting at enemies with the X button. Use the beam attack by pressing the Triangle button. If you need to use a powerful bomb to clear away some of the bullets within its range, just press the Circle button. You can charge up your warp engine by collecting the reactors left behind by the enemies you defeat. Once the warp engine has been fully energized, you’ll be able to press the L1 button to quickly warp to another spot on the screen – hopefully away from the many bullets that can destroy you.

Trophy-wise, this one features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy at the end of your journey. And since this one is from eastasisoft, it’s a Cross-Buy release, so you’ll get to download the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game, and each one will have its own trophy list for you to work on, and each one will have a Platinum trophy for you to add to your collection. Each list will be split into 11 Gold trophies for you to work on. What will you need to do for that shiny Platinum trophy?

The objectives for this one are not going to be that hard to achieve if you have some experience with bullet hells. The trophies will pop as you defeat the boss of each of the five levels, get 5,000,000 points in the first level, and get 10,000,000 points in each of the levels. You can take on this important mission on your own or take advantage of the local co-op option. If you end up losing all your lives, you’ll be able to use the level select option to carry on from the last level you played, if you want to. HyperJump is available as a Cross-Buy title, so your $4.99 purchase will allow you to download both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game at no extra cost.
