Chickenhare and the Treasure of Spiking-Beard from N-Zone brings us a new all-ages video game based on the movie based on the graphic novels. The original graphic novel series was written and illustrated by author Chris Grine. The first one was The House of Klaus in 2006, and it was followed by Fire in the Hole in 2008. The third one was to be Fish and Grymps, but it was unfortunately canceled in 2009. This was followed by a 2011 announcement from Sony Pictures Animation and Dark Horse Comics – who published the original graphic novels – that a movie was in the works. More than 10 years had to pass before Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness was released in theaters in 2022 from nWare Pictures and Sony Pictures in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. This was followed by a worldwide release on Netflix.

It’s now 2025, and we’re getting a video game that uses the look and feel of the Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness while giving us a brand new story to play through. You’ll be going on an adventure to recover the 7 lost crystals of the golden feather before the evil Spiking-Beard and his gang do, or else the Kingdoms are doomed! The titular Chickenhare is known as Hopper in Europe – you know, because of the hopping – which is a bit odd since Chickenhare is an easier way to envision the character, since it’s a cross between a chicken and a hare.

Once your journey begins, you’ll be taking control of your character by using the left analog stick. When playing as Chickenhare, you can jump with the X button and hover for a bit if you hold down the button. Press the L1 button to crack your whip, which will allow you to pull some objects, destroy others, activate switches, or swing around as needed. Crouch by pressing the Circle button. Interact by pressing the Triangle button. You can switch between characters by using the D-Pad and pressing the right direction. The others will retain the jumping and the whip as part of their skills.

When playing as Abe the turtle, you’ll be able to go into your shell by pressing the Square button. This will allow you to crash through some obstacles or boxes. You can also jump and press the Square button to perform a shell stomp. The shell can also be used to protect you from some harm, such as, say, going through fire. If you’re playing as Meg the skunk, you’ll be able to use your punches by pressing the Square button. You can also jump and attack with your mighty kicks. Being a skunk means you can also press and hold down the Square button to charge up your gas cloud, which can be used against several enemies at once.

The game features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to try to add to your collection. The list is split into 8 Bronze trophies, 7 Silver trophies, and 7 Gold trophies for you to work on. What will you need to do for that shiny Platinum? You’ll have to complete all of the tutorials, beat each of the bosses that the game will throw at you, beat the game, grab all the treasure and all coins in a level, get a five-star rating in a level, get a five-star rating in all levels, complete a level without receiving any damage, defeat a boss without receiving any damage, glide for 10 minutes total with Chickenhare, destroy five crates with a single slide, and eliminate 20 enemies with Meg without changing characters.
