SILLY POLLY BEAST from Top Hat Studios and Andrei Chernyshov brings us a story-driven 3D action shooter on PlayStation 5. You’ll be placed in the role of the titular Polly, a mute girl who finds herself going out of the frying pan into the fire. After escaping from a nightmarish life at an orphanage, you’ll start to realize there’s a very peculiar fog covering the city. Your bracelet will let you know how bad things are, and the red fog is something you should most certainly avoid… or else. You’ll soon learn that the police are searching for you since you seem to be responsible for an arson attack! You’ll soon find yourself in a rather peculiar-looking underworld where things might not be as clear as they seem. With no other option left, you make a pact with the Tormented that will hopefully allow you to find a way to free both of you in the process.

You can play through this one by picking one of three difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, or Hard. As expected, the Easy difficulty setting will be the least challenging of the bunch. The Normal difficulty setting will provide you with the standard experience that will definitely challenge you each step of the way without making you feel overwhelmed. As for the Hard difficulty setting, it’s one for which you’ll be punished for any mistakes that you make. Enemies are relentless and out for blood, and will tear you to pieces in a heartbeat.
Once the starting cutscene is over, you’ll be taking control of Polly by using the left analog stick to move around each area, as you run by pressing in on the left analog stick as needed. Sometimes you’ll have to try to sneak through an area, which is why it’s a good thing that you’ll find a Colorless Hood early in the game. Just press down on the D-Pad so that you can hopefully remain undetected long enough. Interact with objects and other characters by pressing the X button.

Once you grab yourself a skateboard, you’ll be able to press the R1 button to hit something – or someone! – with it. Holding down the R1 button will also allow you to throw the skateboard. Performing either action will consume some of your stamina bar. If injured, you can press and hold down the Square button to consume some of the delicious treats you find along the way. That way, you’ll regain a bit of your lost health. You can check how many healing items you have by checking the icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.
After making a pact with the Tormented one, you’ll gain access to a gun. Unfortunately, a recently departed – and formerly drunk – individual grabs it first, so your first task will be to tear it from its chubby hands… or not. It seems that the gun only works when you hold it, so it’s now time for you to make the most of it. The Demolmer will be your first long-range weapon. It’s a small gun that can deal some good damage, and it will be great for getting the job done while you search for something that can pack a bit more punch.

You’ll be aiming by using the right analog stick, and can shoot at enemies by pressing the R2 button. You should also keep a finger ready on the L2 button, since pressing it will allow you to roll. The roll can be used to try to avoid incoming attacks so that you can survive for a bit longer. The Demolmer will use bullets that have been created from the souls of those who have departed. You can recover bullets by defeating enemies or by collecting new ones from soul barrels. Maybe if you get your hands on an explosive larva or two, you’ll be able to take on stronger enemies? Just aim with the L1 button and throw a larva with the R2 button.
The money that you earn along the way can be spent at the shops that you’ll run into while exploring each area. You’ll first need to have $100 to pay the membership fee to even be considered as a patron. Once that’s been taken care of, you’ll be able to purchase a delicious chocolate bar to have as a healing item, some explosive larvas to keep nearby for when you run into stronger enemies or groups of smaller ones, and even a cool cropped jacket that can complement your style.

Trophy-wise, this one features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to add to your collection. The list is split into 19 Bronze trophies, 7 Silver trophies, and 6 Gold trophies for you to work on. What are some of the things that you’ll need to do for that Platinum trophy while trying to make it through the madness? Some of the objectives to complete include defeating each of the bosses in the game, destroying all bottles at the dump, completing the skating levels, as well as finishing some very specific actions that I won’t be spoiling here.
