NASCAR 25 Review - 1

I’ve previously played other NASCAR games over the years on consoles, and The_nmac got to work on a pair of reviews for NASCAR Heat 2 on PlayStation 4 back in 2017, as well as its sequel, the aptly titled NASCAR Heat 3 on Sony’s PlayStation 4 a couple of years later. I even got to do a NASCAR Arcade Rush review, a game that, well, offers a more arcade-style experience on PlayStation 5, so I was more than ready to jump into NASCAR 2025.

There’s the possibility of tailoring your experience by choosing one of five different difficulty options: Casual, Normal, Skilled, Expert, and Advanced. The Casual difficulty setting is the least challenging of the bunch, with easier AI opponents, more driving aids, and shorter races. The Normal difficulty setting has medium AI opponents, some driving aids, and average race lengths. The Skilled difficulty setting has harder AI opponents, minimal driving aids, and average race lengths. The Expert difficulty setting has expert AI opponents, expert driving aids, and average race lengths. As for the Advanced difficulty setting, it has advanced AI opponents, advanced driving aids, and longer race lengths.

Once you’re ready to jump behind the wheel, you’ll be able to take a variety of modes: Quick Race, Championship, Online, and Career. Quick Race Mode allows you to jump into a race right away by choosing the track that you’ll be racing on. Championship Mode will let you choose a season type to play through. These include a full season with playoffs, a regular season, a half season, a quarter season, a crown jewel, a superspeedway, or a short one. Online Mode is the option for racing against other gamers from around the world. And then we have Career Mode.

Career Mode is going to be the main attraction. This one will mark the start of your journey to become a NASCAR champion, and you’ll be guided by none other than the legendary Dale Earnhardt Jr. You can race through the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, and, for the first time, the ARCA Menards Series. The first step will be to go through the Menards Discovery Race. Just place in the top 10 finishers, and you’ll be able to earn a sponsor and a spot in the ARCA Menards Series.

You’ll be using the left analog stick to steer your vehicle as you race through each of the many tracks on offer. Accelerate by using the R2 button, and hit the brakes as needed by pressing the L2 button. Change the camera setting by pressing the R1 button. Toggle the mirror with the L1 button, and use the right analog stick to look around you. When using manual gear shifting, you can shift up and down by pressing the Triangle and Square buttons.

Trophy-wise, this one offers a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy waiting for you. The list is split into 2 Bronze trophies, 7 Silver trophies, and 8 Gold trophies for you to work on. What will you need to do for that shiny Platinum trophy? Some of the objectives to complete include creating a driver, winning a race, completing a full season of each of the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, and ARCA Menards Series, winning a Career Mode race, completing a Career Mode season, and completing a Multiplayer Mode race, to name some examples.
