Makis Adventure from easasiasoft and Zoroarts is a sidescrolling action platformer in which you’ll transform into a shark. Yes, really. You’ll be running, jumping, wall jumping, swimming, and biting your way to victory as you explore each area on offer. You’ll be moving from island to island as a shark – swimming around a small 3D hub world of sorts – and exploring each location as a human, in a bite-sized adventure on Sony’s current-gen console.

You can play through the game by choosing one of three difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, and Hard. If you pick the Easy difficulty setting, then you’ll get one extra HP, enemies will deal less damage, enemies won’t respawn, potion effects have a longer duration, all items are cheaper, minecarts are slower, and bosses are easier. The Normal difficulty setting is the one that the dev recommends, since it offers a good challenge that won’t make you feel overwhelmed. If you choose the Hard difficulty setting, you’ll only have a single hit point, enemies will respawn, you won’t be able to buy any items, minecarts are faster, bosses are much stronger, and minigames are going to be more challenging.
Once your journey begins, you’ll be taking control of your character by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad, as you jump by pressing the X button. You can also perform a wall jump by jumping toward the wall and then pressing the X button while you’re hugging the wall. You can interact as needed by pressing the Triangle button. Press the Circle button while walking to dash forward and dodge enemies. Once you collect the scythe, you’ll get to attack enemies by pressing the Square button. Press the Touchpad on the DualSense to open your inventory, where you can check the items that you’ve managed to collect so far, such as the Heal-Potion you can drink to recover some of your lost health.

From there, you can also review the quests you’ve completed and those you’re working on, as well as check the map, so that you can see where you’ve been and where you should be heading next. The first shark form you’ll gain access to is the reefshark. You can use this form to bite at enemies while underwater by pressing the Square button. What are the other two shark forms you can use? You’ll have to find the other two shark teeth on your own to see for yourself!
As expected from an eastasiasoft release in 2025, this game features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to try and add to your collection. And on top of that, this is a Cross-Buy title, so you’ll be able to download the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game to your PS5 console, and each one will have a separate trophy list with a Platinum trophy. Each list will be split into 10 Silver trophies and 8 Gold trophies for you to work on. What will you need to do for that shiny Platinum trophy?

Along with a trophy that will pop when you start Makis Adventure… adventure, you can also make some trophies pop by completing objectives such as petting the dog, jumping, purchasing a scratch card in Harbonia and winning, buying 5 potion from Cornelius’ shop, cutting up 250 pieces of grass, eating 25 enemies as a reef shark, defeating 25 enemies by using your scythe, and collecting 250 coins, to name some examples.

You’ll be moving from island to island as a shark – swimming around a small 3D hub world of sorts – and exploring each location as a human, in a bite-sized adventure on Sony’s current-gen console. Unfortunately, the game suffers from some weird bugs that hinder the overall experience. Paused the game? Things will lag for a handful of seconds after you try to continue. There’s no invincibility window, so an enemy can glitch you to death if it bumps into you in a particular way. This is also twice as hard to avoid when going up against bosses. Makis Adventure is available as a Cross-Buy title, so your $9.99 purchase will allow you to download the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game at no extra cost.
