Formula Legends from 3DClouds brings us a colorful, stylized racing experience inspired by the greats of Formula racing. The game offers 14 circuits that have been inspired by historic racing locations, presented as they evolve through time. You’ll be able to drive 16 unique models that have been inspired by creations from the 1960s up to the modern day. This is why the aforementioned racing circuits are split by decades, starting in the 1960s and up to the current 2020s.
Because of this, as you progress further and complete specific objectives to unlock more cars, your vehicle options will include the Alps Racing 220E, the Bam 200M, the BrownieGP 200L, the BRUUM 60L, the Cougar 200E, the Cupper 60L, the Custom Motors 220E, the FB Racing 220M, the Ferenzo 60L, the Flower 60L, the Fortisland 210M, the Fyrrex 70L, the Huski 70M, to name some examples. You’ll also get to unlock additional drivers who pay homage to the legends of the racing world. Each vehicle will have different stat values for max speed, acceleration, and handling.
You can play in one of three modes: Story, Time Attack, and Custom. Story Mode is the main attraction, and it will allow you to relive some of the defining moments of Formula racing. You’ll be able to compete in era-based championships, driving legendary cars as you aim to carve your name in history. Time Attack Mode asks that you challenge yourself and try to get the best lap time possible. As for Custom Mode, it will allow you to customize your racing experience so that you can test your skills in a single race or a championship. It’s here that you can also replay the tutorial.
You should definitely check out the game’s tutorial so that you can better get the hang of things. You’ll be using the left analog stick to steer your vehicle as you press the R2 button to accelerate. This is important when you’re in the starting zone, since you’ll need to control the throttle to stay within the ideal RPM limits so that you can get a perfect start. Press the L2 button to brake and stop. Hold the L2 button when stationary to go in reverse. Be careful when braking, since if you do this too hard and suddenly, you could end up locking the brakes, temporarily losing control of the vehicle.
There’s the option of activating the anti-lock braking system driving aid. Press and hold down the Triangle button so that you can respawn back on the track if needed. Leaving the track limits will incur time penalties, which will add seconds to your overall lap time. You’ll first receive a warning when leaving the track limits, except in the case of major shortcuts on the track, which will instantly trigger a penalty. Pay attention to the track, since the darker lines on the asphalt will represent the ideal trajectory for cornering.
As the race progresses, you should keep an eye on your tires. They will degrade as you grip onto the track, thus losing performance. This will increase the risk of losing control of your vehicle when cornering. There’s also an option in the driving aid to activate traction control so that you can prevent loss of traction. There’s also going to be the need to choose the right tires for each race, depending on the weather conditions. If it’s raining, then you’ll need tires that give you a better grip.
If your vehicle collides with objects or with other vehicles, it will receive damage, which will lower its overall integrity. If a vehicle accumulates too much damage, then its performance will be reduced considerably. On top of that, your vehicle will use up lots of fuel during each race. You can’t risk running out of fuel, so be sure to consider a visit to the pits before it’s too late! Doing this will restore the condition of your tires and vehicle, as well as fully refill its fuel tank. Just make it to the pits and stop in your box to get the process started. To make the most of this, you’ll need to complete a mini-game to change tires by pressing the right buttons. The one for fuel requires that you press the R2 button to refuel. To repair your vehicle, you’ll have to press the L2 button. Once you’re done, press in on the left and right analog sticks to exit the pit box and rejoin the race.
Modern cars have access to the Wind Reduction System – WRS – which can be used when the gap between you and the car you’re following is less than 1 second. While inside the WSR activation zone, you’ll be able to use it to gain a speed boost. The detection and activation zones are marked by signs along the track. When inside a WSR zone, press the Circle button to receive a boost. The WSR will deactivate automatically if you hit the brakes or exit the WSR zone. Modern cars also have the Battery Recovery System – BRS – that accumulates energy when braking and accelerating, which is then converted into a speed boost. When you have some charge in the battery indicator, press the X button for a boost.
This game features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to add to your collection. The list is split into 10 Bronze trophies, 9 Silver trophies, and 6 Gold trophies for you to work on. What are the objectives that you’ll need to complete for this one? Some of the things that you’re going to have to do include completing the tutorial, unlocking your first driver and car, unlocking your first poster, ending a race without taking any warnings or penalties while playing in the Hard difficulty setting, spending 60 minutes in Photo Mode, ending a race in first position after starting in the last position, traveling 1,000 km with the same vehicle, and running 50 races with the same team.
