Space Adventure Cobra – The Awakening from Microids and Magic Pockets brings us an action-packed take on the beloved classic anime series. Cobra is a manga that was originally released way back in 1978, appearing as part of the popular Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. It was written and illustrated by Buichi Terasawa, and it ran for 18 volumes up to 1984. Cobra got an anime adaptation in 1982 under the name of Space Cobra. It’s Space Cobra that serves as the basis for this new 2.5D action game that faithfully adapts the content from the first 12 episodes in the series: “Resurrection! The Psychogun!”, “The Mysterious Zygoba!”, “Archenemy! Crystal Bowie”, “Escape!! Sid Prison”, “Mystery! Who is the Fearsome Sniper?”, “The Magician’s Identity!”, “Jane’s Revenge!”, “Fierce Battle! Cobra versus Bowie”, “Behold!! The Snow Gorilla Pirates!”, “The Tattoo’s Secret”, “Zados, the Sand Planet”, and “The Dreadful Ultimate Weapon.”

If you’re new to Cobra, it’s the story of the titular character, a resourceful space pirate whose left arm has been replaced with a powerful mind-controlled energy cannon. He’s joined by his loyal partner, Lady Armaroid, and together they work on solving a mystery that could threaten the entire universe’s very existence. Your mission will be to travel from planet to planet as you try to save three sisters – Jane Royal, Catherine Royal, and Dominique Royal, whose existence is tied to a treasure that is being sought by the evil Space Pirate Guild.
You can play through the game by choosing one of three difficulty settings: Johnson, Space Pirate, and Most Wanted. If you go with the Johnson difficulty setting, then you will be taking on an experience that’s a bit more laid back, not offering much of a challenge as you make your way through each level with greater ease. The Space Pirate difficulty setting provides you with the standard challenge that will test your skills without making you feel overwhelmed.
