Stratogun from Numskull Games and Horsefly Games is an arcade-style twin-stick orbital space shooter on PlayStation 5. It’s a game that pays homage to the classics from back in the day that you would find at an actual arcade. It features an old-school wireframe aesthetic, which definitely evokes images of games such as Battletank or Tempest. You’ll need to always be on high alert as you shoot your way through swarms of enemies who won’t stop until they’re dead or you’re dead. The good news is that after each run, you’ll be rewarded for your efforts so that you can improve your spaceship and keep the gameplay loop going.

There are 10 spaceships for you to unlock, each one with its own stats to consider. Some might be faster than others, but the slower ones will surely compensate with a bit of extra armor that can keep you alive in case you make a mistake. One example of a faster ship is the KYR-P4 Specter, which is a good option if you want to be in constant motion as you squeeze through tight spaces. The opposite of that would be the SCYTHE X3, a heavy bomber with heavy armor that won’t be as fast, so you’ll need to make sure you plan accordingly.
Once you dive into action, you’ll pilot your spaceship with the left analog stick as you use the right one to rotate around the sphere. Shoot by pressing the R2 button and dash by pressing the L1 button. Reload as needed with the Circle button. Use an item, which you can see in the slots on the right side of the screen, by pressing the L2 button. These include a bomb that will destroy enemies around you, a spread that fires all around you, or a wave that launches a huge projectile to clear the way. The R1 button activates bullet time, which allows you to take care of things while everything around you slows down. You can collect power-ups to add armor for your spaceship, grab more items, or add more dash and bullet time on the left side of the screen.

As mentioned before, after each run you’ll be rewarded for the progress you’ve made. Your score will be converted into experience points, which will then allow you to unlock new weapons, perks, and items to use during subsequent runs. You’ll also obtain upgrade points, which you can spend to boost your spaceship’s armor, speed, as well as the damage dealt by its attacks. You will have to fight against 9 different bosses, so the more upgrades you can have for your spaceship, the better!
Trophy-wise, this one features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy waiting for you. The list is split into 9 Bronze trophies, 9 Silver trophies, and 7 Gold trophies for you to work on. Some of the objectives to complete include getting your first perk, scoring over 10,000 points, unlocking all perks, unlocking your first ship, defeating the 5th boss, defeating all bosses, destroying 10,000 enemies, getting the multiplier to the max, surviving a boss fight without receiving any damage, completing 100 runs, scoring over 5,000,000 points, destroying 100,000 enemies, unlocking Boss Rush Mode, unlocking and alll ships, to name some examples.
