Koira from DON’T NOD and Studio Tolima brings us a heartwarming, hand-drawn adventure through a musical forest. You’ll be on your own at first but will soon find a canine companion that will help you find your way… that is, once you rescue him from the trap that’s caught him! Free him up, and you’ll notice he’s a musically inclined pup who will share golden magical notes with you. He’s also got a bit of a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer vibe going on since he has a glowing nose that will be very useful in this journey. Dogs also like to dig up stuff, and they’re great at fetching stuff or playing with you to make you feel better!

Your journey will begin as soon as you boot up the game. You’ll control your character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad as you press the X button to wave at others or to interact. You can use this to pet your dog companion. You should always pet the dog! Pressing the Circle button will make your character produce a musical note or two, which you can use to call your canine companion to your side or to have an effect on some structures so that you can progress further in the game.

And now, let’s talk about the trophies! This release does not have a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to try adding to your collection, which feels odd for a game launching in 2025. The list is split into 13 Bronze trophies, 6 Silver trophies, and the one Gold trophy for you to work on. What must you do to 100% the game’s trophy list? Some of the objectives to complete include feeding the dog 10 times, petting the dog 20 times, staying hidden for 30 seconds during hide-and-seek, getting rid of 20 fog clouds, throwing snowballs at 5 different kinds of animals, making two snowmen, putting any hat on the dog, collecting all hats in the game, staying at a campfire for 2 minutes, and completing the game, to name some examples.

Unfortunately, as soon as you start to have a good time and learn how to unwind in this new life of yours, the hunters decide to ruin things by doing what they do best: hunt down the wildlife of the forest! The good news is that you have a newfound courage that will allow you to not only defend the birds, boards, squirrels, moles, and other animals in the forest but also rescue your canine friend once and for all. Even if some of the animals aren’t as friendly to you as you would expect, that doesn’t mean you should let the hunters get them! Are you up for this new challenge? Koira launches today on PlayStation 5 with a $17.99 price tag.
