Which Way Up: Galaxy Games from Turtle Flip Studio is a colorful cosmic local party game for up to four players. It presents 12 different mini-games to enjoy with the 7 available characters, along with some single-player challenges – more on these in a bit. The characters in this game are Sprout, Prism, Luna, Sunny, Maggie, Spark, and Orbit. As for the 12 mini-games? They are called Constellation Catch, Event Horizon, Gravapult, Comet Collect, Star Ring, Overload, Nebula Nab, Hole-in-One, Berry Barrage, Puff Panic, Bumper Stars, and Gastronomer.
Turtle Flip Studio took Which Way Up: Galaxy Games to Kickstarter last year, seeking AU$20,000 to work on the final push for the game’s completion. Unfortunately, once the crowdfunding campaign was over, and even though it received the support of 170 backers, the team didn’t manage to reach its funding goal. Turtle Flip Studio took this as a learning experience and continued to work on the project in hopes of finding a way to launch the game. It’s now 2025, and Which Way Up: Galaxy Games is ready to go on Nintendo’s console!
Your options for playing the game will be Practice, Single-Player, and Multiplayer. By going into Practice, you’ll be able to learn the basics so that you can quickly get the hang of things. You’ll control your character with the left analog stick as you jump from planetoid to planetoid with the B button. Use the left analog stick to also aim in the direction in which you want your character to jump, and you can continue to hold down the B button to have your character float around for a bit in that direction as well! You can use the A button to perform your Comet Push, which can be used to hit opponents as well as to propel your character in the opposite direction. You can also use this to charge up and bump into an opponent.
The Single-Player option will have you going on an adventure with challenges that will increase in difficulty as you progress further and further, with a mix of the aforementioned mini-games. You can aim to earn as many medals as possible by quicky completing each challenge, so, if you want to 100% the game, you’ll have to play with all characters and replay each challenge to improve your overall time! Multiplayer is the main draw for Which Way Up: Galaxy Games. Constellation Catch will have you racing across the universe as you try to collect as many constellations as possible. Do be careful because opponents can steal your constellations if you’re not careful! Event Horizon will ask that you jump your way out of the mighty power of a black hole that is pulling everything and everyone toward it.
Gravapult is a fast-paced mini-game in which you’ll have to launch bombs at your opponents’ planets while trying to keep yours intact. Comet Collect will ask that you control comets with your Comet Push and gather as many as possible. For Star Ring, you’ll need to remain within the wandering light to be the winner. In Overload, unstable energy will infect one of the players, and it must rush to tag another player before it overloads! In Nebula Nab, you’ll gather and deliver Pips to the Atom and knock your opponent’s Pips away to win. Hole-in-One requires that you be the first to get a hole-in-one over the six interstellar golf greens.
In Berry Barrage, you’ll need to maneuver through fruity chaos as you avoid jelly berries or try to redirect them with your Comet Push to avoid blast berries at all costs! Puff Panic will have you navigating the orbiting ruins around Puff, the baby dragon’s home while avoiding Puff’s fireballs as you jump across the crumbling platforms. Bumper Stars will have you charging against other opponents while using your Comet Push to try and send them out of the screen. The last one in the mix is Gastronomer. For this mini-game, the player that takes on the role of the Gastronomer must devour everything in its path while the other players try to bomb you.
