Real Heroes: Firefighter has now made the jump to PlayStation 5 with some extra bells and whistles. Ziggurat Interactive previously released the game on PlayStation 4 in a version that was closer to the former Nintendo Wii experience, but it has now gone back to give us a PlayStation 5 port that bumps things up to 4K while also making good use of the DualSense’s haptic feedback. You’ll be taking on the role of a rookie cadet who has just joined the firefighter team in Los Angeles and will need to quickly get the hang of things in order to save not only the people trapped in the many fires you’ll be sent to contain but also his own team members. The game features the voice talent of James Marsters (Buffy: The Vampire Slayer), Jack McGee (Rescue Me), Michael Jace (The Shield), Jamie Kennedy (Ghost Whisperer), and Jenette Goldstein (Aliens).

Since Real Heroes: Firefighter HD is played from a first-person perspective, you’ll be controlling your character with the left analog stick as you use the right analog stick to look around and aim. You can run by holding down the L2 button. Do know that you won’t be able to use your tools while running. Interact with objects by pressing the x button. Grab yourself a fire extinguisher and use it by pressing the R2 button to remove the flames.
You can switch between your available tools by using the D-Pad. Found a door that is jammed? Then equip the axe so that you can bring it down! You can also use the axe to destroy other stuff that might be on your way. Some doors will need to be opened with your halligan tool so that you can put some extra pressure on them. Use it to pry open other objects as well!

Your hose is going to be a very important tool for putting out fires. You can change to the fog nozzle by pressing in on the right analog stick to fight fires up close. When your hose line is about to run out, you’ll see that the hose icon will begin to blink. Once you go past the range for the hose line, you won’t be able to use it anymore and will need to either find a new hose to use for the current area or use the available tools to keep going. This is why you should always make sure that you don’t use your fire extinguisher unless it’s extremely necessary – or unless you’re going for the game’s Platinum trophy. More on this in a bit.
When you’re in an area with heavy smoke, crouching is your only option for making it without running out of air. Just press in on the left analog stick to crouch. If you’re near another firefighter or a civilian, you’ll see the call-out action pop up. Just press the Square button and follow the sound to find them! If they can’t walk, then you’re going to have to carry them to safety, which does mean you won’t be able to use your tools while you have your hands while carrying them with you!

These tools are not all of the tools that you’ll be using. Grab a hydraulic spreader to pry off a car door so that you can hopefully make it in time to save someone from an accident. Press the X button to place the hydraulic spreader once you’ve lined it up. After it’s in place, press the R2 button to spread its jaws. Before using it again, don’t forget to press the L2 button to close it up so that you can then place it.
Another tool for you to keep in mind is the rotary saw, a heavy-duty tool you can use to cut down a wall if needed. For this, you will have to aim the rotary saw with the left analog stick and use the right analog stick to rotate the saw. Once you’re ready, press and hold down the R2 button to start cutting so that you can slowly move the rotary saw. You’ll get to learn how to use this tool during your training as you go over a handy overlay that will let you know exactly where to cut and in which direction.
As for the trophies, the list mimics that of Real Heroes: Firefighter, which means that, as mentioned before, this PlayStation 5 release does have a Platinum trophy waiting for you. The list is split into 10 Bronze trophies, 9 Silver trophies, and 6 Gold trophies for you to work on. Some of the objectives to complete include clearing the game’s tutorial, completing each of the levels that the game has to offer, beating the entire game in the Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulty settings, acquiring your first piece of special equipment, finding all special equipment, and locating all of the fire cause determination medals that are hidden in the many areas of the game’s different levels, to name some examples.
