Zero to Dance Hero from Aksys Games and Imagineer is a new dance fitness game on Nintendo Switch. This one has now made it over here, and is a port of what is known in Japan as Fit Boxing Presents HOP! STEP! DANCE! Once you boot up the game, you’ll be greeted by Anna, your new instructor. She’ll be helping you learn how to dance so that you can, you know, go from zero to becoming a proper dance hero. Since the game will use the motion controls of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, you’ll have to detach the Joy-Con and use them on their own.

The next step will be to let Anna know your weight so that she can use this information to calculate burnt calories during each session that you’ll be taking on. You can set a password to protect this private information if you want to. Anna suggests that once you set a passcode, you change it around occasionally to be extra careful. Before you start your new journey, you might want to grab a towel to wipe away sweat. Oh, and, you know, some water to stay hydrated during your workout! To prevent injuries, each day’s lessons will begin with a warm-up segment to get you going.
This game makes the most of the motion controls of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, as you move your arms around to mimic the dance steps that you’re about to learn. Because of this, you should make sure to use the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con straps to prevent them from flying out of your hands. You should also make sure that you have enough space around you so that you can comfortably move as you dance and not hit any object that could injure you. Oh, and be sure to keep a towel near to clean your sweat, as well as some water to remain hydrated!

The gameplay cycle is going to be simple and to the point. Your instructor will be working alongside you, showing you what you need to do for each individual lesson so that you can then repeat it. You’ll start at lower beats per minute (BPM) so that you can get the hang of things before your instructor bumps up the BMP. Once you’ve practiced enough, you’ll be able to work on the lesson along with the music.
As you unlock songs and routines to play in Free Mode, away from a lesson, you’ll be able to choose from four different instructors. The same goes for the Stretching option! You can choose between Anna, Noel, Rin, and Hiro. Find the one you feel most comfortable with so that you can workout as you learn and practice new dance moves and make your way through the game’s soundtrack.

She’ll be helping you learn how to dance so that you can, you know, go from zero to becoming a proper dance hero. Since the game will use the motion controls of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, you’ll need plenty of space around you so that you don’t end up bumping into something. You’ll be learning dance routines in bite-sized segments, which will make the whole thing feel a lot easier than if you had to jump into action and learn a choreography in one go. Zero to Dance Hero is out on Nintendo Switch with a $39.99 price tag.
