Platform 8 Review - 1

Sequel Platform 8 from PLAYISM and KOTAKE CREATE is ready to reel you in on Nintendo Switch. It follows looping walking sim The Exit 8, which I got to review earlier this year on Nintendo’s console. For this new walking sim, instead of finding yourself in an endless loop through an underground passageway, you’ll be walking through an infinite loop of train cars, with danger and untold horrors lurking everywhere.

Platform 8 Review - 2

This sequel is once again presented from a first-person perspective, so you’ll take control of your character by using the left analog stick or the D-Pad to walk through each looping train car while using the right analog stick to look around. Just as was the case for the prequel, you’ll have to pay attention to your surroundings to spot any anomalies so that you can, hopefully, find the sequence that will allow you to break the loop to escape from the endless train. Since all you can do is walk around and look at things, all other buttons on the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con can be pressed to make your character run.

Platform 8 Review - 3

While your first instinct upon finding something bizarre in your path – even more bizarre than an endless train ride – would be to run, you should take a deep breath and try to focus on what you found. Yes, some anomalies will be dangerous, but you’ll only be able to find the solution to your predicament through some old-school trial and error.

What anomalies will you find during your time with this new game? Talking about too many of them would end up spoiling the experience for you, so I’ll only mention a pair of them to give you an idea of what you’re getting yourself into. Along with the single man sitting as he looks at his phone repeatedly showing in subsequent cars over and over again, you could, say, find yourself in a train car that is suddenly flooding. Or have bloody handprints show up as you walk. You know, the usual.

Platform 8 Review - 4

Platform 8 follows looping walking sim The Exit 8, but instead of finding yourself in an endless loop through an underground passageway, you’ll be walking through an endless loop of train car, with danger and untold horrors lurking everywhere. You’ll need to always pay attention to your surroundings and find how you can overcome each of the bizarre anomalies you’ll run into. Will you find a way to escape before it’s too late? Platform 8 is available on Nintendo Switch with a budget price of only $3.99.
