Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island from Whitethorn Games and Polygon Treehouse will take us on a cozy journey through a lost mythical location. You’ll be jumping into the shoes of Alex, a backpacker who finds herself in a peculiar land where the Greek gods of ancient times walk around like that’s not something out of the ordinary. Alex needed a break from modern life, but I don’t know if she had in mind to jump into Greek times in a contemporary setting. Too bad the boat she was riding had to crash in here for her to be able to disconnect from life for a bit!

It turns out the Greek gods didn’t vanish from our world. They just, you know, went on an extended vacation! As you meet them, you’ll soon realize they’ve somehow lost their memories. That is why, for this non-linear experience, you’ll be working on locating the items they’ve lost – their respective mementos – so that you can bring them back to hopefully jog their memory. As you work on this, be sure to manually save your progress along the way by sitting on any of the many benches dotted out around Ambrosia Island!
Once your new adventure begins, you’ll control Alex with the left analog stick as you interact with other characters or objects by pressing the A button. Press in on the left analog stick to flash all interactable spots in the area you’re currently exploring. You can sprint if you press and hold down the Y button. Any of the topics that you’ve found can be discussed with other characters that you find. Although your phone was smashed when the boat crashed onto Ambrosia Island, you’ll soon find the very useful Ambrosidex! It lies at the feet of Ora, a talking statue – whom the islanders call the Oracle – who can aid you better understand what is going on.

Open up your Ambrosidex with the X button. Switch categories with the L and R buttons, and move between subcategories with the ZL and ZR buttons. You can also check your map and zoom in and out as needed by using the right analog stick. The map in your Ambrosidex is important since it will be used to review any flashing orange areas, which will show you the Memento Heat. What this means is that for that particular area, there’s at least one memento for you to collect.
You’ll have to be patient when exploring an area that shows some Memento Heat since just because there’s a memento there, it doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to collect it! Just keep your eyes open for Ambrosia Fruit so that you can buy winged keys from Hermes to open up fast travel spots around the island and revisit areas to give searching for mementos another shot. The fast travel spots are the peculiar locked doors you’ve found that previously seemed to lead nowhere.

Ambrosia Fruit can also be traded for other items. You can start to trade Ambrosia Fruit with the islanders once your friendship level increases. For this, you’re going to have to talk to each one of them about a variety of topics, as well as help find their mementos and complete some miscellaneous quests. The first islander that will give you a quest will be Hermes. He wants you to take some dried dates and feed the gulls. By completing favors for the Gods, you’ll be rewarded with Friend Points. Once you obtain enough and find their mementos, you’ll increase your friendship level!
All islanders will have a daily routine for you to keep in mind. Once you make a new friend, you’ll be able to open up the Ambrosidex to check their timetable. You’ll run into this early in the game when trying to meet Hermes. When you first go to his home – which is a huge seaplane – he will tell you he doesn’t meet people when it’s dark. You’ll have to rest at Alex’s new lighthouse base until dawn if you are to meet Hermes. Later on, you’ll be able to use benches to pass time to noon, sunset, and midnight.

If you’re the type of gamer who likes to 100% games, then you’ll need to work on obtaining all 32 Pin Badges you can collect during your time with Ambrosia Island. What are some of the objectives that you’ll need to complete to get these Pin Badges? You’ll have to pick 10 Ambrosia Fruits, Find 10 lost mementos, visit an islander’s home for the first time, collect all mixtape cassettes, acquire all furniture for decorating your base, locate all hidden treasures, open up all fast travel doors, translate all the ancient lore columns, restore the island’s wind turbines, feed all of the island’s gulls, restore the island mosaics, and find a way out of the island, to name some examples.
