Squirrel with a Gun from Maximum Entertainment and Dee Dee Creations is a sandbox shooter that is as weird as its name suggests. You’ll be taking on the role of a small rodent who develops a knack for crime and wreaking havoc. Once you get your hands on one of the different weapons you’ll find during your journey, you’ll be ready to fight against all odds as you grow your empire… or something. You’ll need many acorns to be able to make some purchases that will allow you to become the most powerful squirrel ever.

It was all much simpler back in the day. You were just an ordinary squirrel minding your own business when one day you stumbled upon a large Golden Acorn… or at least you thought it was a large Golden Acorn. This was, in fact, a large technological contraption of the topmost of top-secret secrets. Once you made your way inside the bunker – and after activating some colorful sensors – you managed to grab the Golden Acorn, and thus, your new life of crime began.
You’ll learn the basics during the starting section of the game. For this 3D sandbox action experience, you’ll control your fluffy squirrel with the left analog stick as you use the right analog stick to move the camera around as needed. Jump by pressing the X button. Since you’re a squirrel, you can grab stuff by pressing the R2 button. You can then throw what you’re carrying by pressing the R2 button again.

After you get your hands on the first gun of the game, you can use it by aiming with the L2 button and shooting by pressing the R2 button. Since you’re a small squirrel, the gun’s recoil will move you every time you shoot… which you can use to your advantage! Pressing the X button while jumping will shoot your current gun downwards, giving you a short burst upwards. Think of it as a gun-powered double jump.
As you defeat enemies, your mighty squirrel will collect lots of energy. This is very important since the yellow energy can be spent to activate Hyperfocus Mode. What this will do is considerably slow down time all around you so that you can, well, more easily focus on your enemies and completely destroy them with your weapons. Collect pinecones made of bullets to get reload energy, which you can store by grabbing the reload containers spread throughout the game.

If you want to 100% the game, then you’ll also have to try and collect all of the special Golden Accorns, which you can use to unlock extra areas. And yes, this is also tied to some of the trophies! The game features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy for you to add to your collection. The trophy list is split into 4 Bronze trophies, 7 Silver trophies, and 8 Gold trophies for you to work on. What must you do to add that shiny Platinum to your collection? You’re going to have to hold up a citizen, hold up 20 citizens, steal a phone, allow 15 citizens to photograph you, shave 30 citizens, shave 30 agents, defeat 100 agents, perform every takedown at least once, find every latrine, and collect your first Golden Acorn, to name some examples. If you need some extra help, you can check out this Squirrel with a Gun Trophy Guide.
