Voxel-based sequel EARTH DEFENSE FORCE: WORLD BROTHERS 2 from D3Publisher and Yuke’s is ready to go on PlayStation 5. If you’re new to this long-running series, it’s a beloved franchise that got its start back in 2003 on PlayStation 2. It follows the efforts of the titular Earth Defense Force (EDF), a specialized task force established and supported by every country and staffed by the world’s militaries. Their goal? Defending Earth from external threats… which usually means fighting against giant, deadly bugs. This particular entry is the second game in spin-off WORLD BROTHERS, and it’s now once again time to save the plane since it’s now in pieces. Yes, again. You’ll be playing on your own or in local or online multiplayer for up to four gamers.
Giant enemies are attacking the square Earth. You’ll be tasked with taking on huge enemies such as giant ants, giant spiders, giant bees, giant scorpions, considerably large UFOs, some giant robots, and the humongous bosses you’ll need to take down. You’ll be able to choose four teammates to take into action from among all of the ones you’ve managed to add to your cause. There are more than 100 characters to collect, so you’ll be able to find the right combination to suit your playing style. Soldiers from other EDF spin-offs will be joining the fight as well. And you’ll be able to customize all of them with the 600+ equipable weapons and accessories.
Once you jump into action, you’ll take control of your character with the left analog stick as you use the right one to control the camera as needed. Press the L1 button for precision aiming, and then press the R2 button to attack! Reload your weapon with the Square button. Sprint by pressing in on the left analog stick so that you can clear longer distances at a faster pace. Press the X button to jump. You can switch between your teammates by using the D-Pad. Rescue a teammate in need by pressing the Circle button to bring them back into action.
Each character will have a maneuver ability and a support ability for you to put to good use. Take, for example, your starting character. It will be able to use a dodge roll by pressing left or right on the left analog stick and the L2 button. As for his support ability, it will be Aerial Reverser, which you can use with the R1 button. This will launch a special grenade that will generate an armor recovery field for allies. Once your SP gauge is full, press in on the right analog stick to unleash a mighty SP attack that can deal a ton of damage.
Trophy-wise, this game has a full trophy list with a shiny Platinum trophy for you to work on. Since it’s a Cross-Buy release, if you own a PlayStation 5 console, you’ll be able to download both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game, and each one will have a separate trophy list. Said trophy list will be split into 26 Bronze trophies, 10 Silver trophies, and 10 Gold trophies. What are the objectives you’ll need to complete? First up will be completing the game’s tutorial. From there, you’ll have to progress through the game’s story as you complete each chapter, switch between teammates 20 times on any mission, use emotes 10 times in a mission, rescue 5 teammates who have fallen in combat, recruit every teammate, obtain every weapon, complete a mission without taking damage, inflict 99,999 damage to an enemy with a single hit, to name some examples.
