No Case Should Remain Unsolved from PLAYISM and SOMI is a new mystery adventure on Nintendo Switch. This publisher and indie dev combo previously gave us the lost phone visual novel Replica on Nintendo’s console, which I got a chance to review back at the end of 2020. Yes, that was indeed during peak pandemic times. We’re now getting a detective experience in which you’ll be working on uncovering and piecing together memory fragments as you take on a long-forgotten case. You’re Jeon Gyeong, a former police detective who will do whatever it takes to solve this case about a missing girl. It was the last case that she worked on, and it’s something that still haunts her to this day.

On February 5, 2012, a little girl named Seowon is reported missing from a playground. Although the police launch an investigation and questioned many witnesses and potential suspects, the case of little Seowon remained unsolved. It’s been twelve years since you’ve retired, when you receive the visit of a young police officer. She asks you to please take another look at Seowon’s case. You’ll soon realize that, unfortunately, everyone around the young girl was lying, and there’s a lot to find to solve this case.
You’ll be working on connecting memories as if they were pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. By using your power of deduction over the course of this 2-3 hours experience as you better understand why this case was left unsolved, trial and error is going to be part of this gameplay loop. Since it’s an adventure novel, that means there’s a lot of reading in your future since the game does not have any voice acting in place. Just press the A button to move the dialogue and story forward, and be ready to make the most of the information you gather. Why did the girl’s father want to leave things as they were in the first place? Why did he get mad when a report for a missing person was created? You’re about to find out!

As you bring up fragments, you’ll try to connect them together as you weave a chain of recollections. At first, it would seem as if all the testimonies you collected back when you were working on the case came from the same person. You’ll soon realize that your memories have been scrambled and misaligned, and you’ll need to work on remembering who said what, as well as when each moment took place. Doing this will be key to finding out what really happened to little Seowon all those years ago.
