Exophobia from Zarc Attack and PM Studios is a sci-fi first-person shooter on Nintendo Switch with a dash of Metroidvania. You find yourself inside a human spaceship that has been taken over by hostile alien soldiers. Your only option is to explore the spaceship, find a way to defeat the alien soldiers, and try to save any human survivors before it’s too late. This one will have you moving from area to area as you aim to your sides, without a need to aim above or below you, as is the case for more modern FPS you’ve probably played over, say, the last couple of years.

After the intro cutscene is over, you’ll take control of your character with the left analog stick as you look around and aim with the right one as needed. You can shoot with the ZR button and can use a quick slide by pressing the ZL button, which will make you invincible for a moment. You can press in on the right analog stick or press the B button to open a door. You also have a shockwave mapped to the L button, as well as a blast set to the R button. The shockwave and the blast are unlocked later in the game once you find the corresponding upgrades. Another upgrade will allow you to charge up your gun so that you can launch a burst that can deal more damage, as well as destroy some vents.
Be sure to search every room for any items or upgrades that can aid you on your journey. Checking the ship’s map at a terminal can help to point you in the right direction. You can also press the – button to open up your map. To recharge the map, visit a save station and check the map there using the control console’s option. You can also locate CDs here and there that will provide you with new log entries from the crew, which help to expand on the overall lore for Exophobia.

If you want to 100% this one, then you need to know that Exophobia has an in-game achievements system for you to work on. There are over 40 achievements, with objectives that include pushing an alien into the end of a conveyor, killing 10 bugs with a single shockwave, exploding a robot into another one, deflecting 5 bullets with a shockwave, finding all health upgrades, beating the game, doing so in less than 2 hours, and completing the game without dying a single time.

Exophobia is a sci-fi first-person shooter with a dash of Metroidvania in which you’ll be exploring a spaceship that has been overrun by alien soldiers. With most of the humans on the spaceship being massacred by the alien soldiers, it’s up to you to search for any survivors as you search for upgrades that can help you survive this ordeal. Will you be able to defeat them? Exophobia is out tomorrow on Nintendo Switch with a $14.99 price tag.
