DROS from RedDeerGames and emergeWorlds is a top-down dark fantasy adventure on Nintendo Switch. You’ll be going on a journey in which you’ll be taking control of two characters – a slimy creature and her human bounty hunter “shell.” Let’s call him Captain. You’ll be exploring a world corrupted by alchemy and must do whatever it takes to fix things before it’s too late. Your quest will take you through a crumbling tower under the control of an evil alchemist who is responsible for everything that is going on.

DROS Review - 1

This adventure will take you through 40 diorama-like locations where you’ll need to defeat enemies, solve puzzles, and grab collectibles and items that can aid you in your journey. The slimy creature? That’s the titular Dros. You’ll need to make the most of the skills and abilities of Dros and the Captain to progress further and further. Learn when to fight and when to be stealthy so that you can get closer to the Alchemist. The Captain can’t survive without Dros, and Dros can’t continue to exist without a shell.

Once your journey begins, you’ll control your characters with the left analog stick. Dros will be able to jump and double jump with the A button. The X button will be used to interact with objects or other characters. The Captain can sprint by pressing and holding down the Y button. The A button will be for blocking incoming attacks. He can also attack by pressing the Y button. This can be used to destroy small barriers or to damage enemies and bosses. You can also press and hold down the Y button to do a spin attack.

And no, the Captain can’t jump because his armor is too heavy. Dros can easily detach from the Captain at the press of a button. Just hit the R button to control Dros on its own as you try to jump your way to victory. Press the R button again to recall Dros and attach it to the shell. The ZL button can be used to heal your wounds as long as you have enough of a charge for it. While tackling each spot, you’ll also collect Prima. Prima is what you’ll use to heal your wounds.

In order for you to get a better view of things, you can move the camera around as needed by using the right analog stick. Speaking of which, you should find and help Enki as you travel through the tower. He’s the owner of all the Prima vending machines you’ll find during your journey and can help you expand your set of abilities. Take, for example, the first special soda flavor he’ll grant you. Thanks to this, you’ll be able to press the L button to use Dros’ enhanced perception to view the world from a higher perspective so that you can easily spot your objectives.

DROS Review - 3

As you explore each area and interact with other characters and creatures, you should also keep an eye out for any drawings or documents you can locate along the way. All of this can prove to be valuable since you have a chance to find some of the lore for the DROS universe that can help you better understand things. You can also find information that can help you solve some of the game’s puzzles. You can check this info in your journal.

Dros isn’t the only creature of its type. On each level, you’ll end up finding enemies, known as Corrupted Dros, that will challenge you. One of them might be sporting a protective shell that is connected to a dangerous cannon to shoot at you. Another one might have very sharp metal jaws to chomp at you if you’re not careful. You will even run into a Corrupted Dros thatros that sorta mimics your Dros’ relationship with the Captain!

If you want to 100% the game, then you’ll have to pay attention to the extra objectives you can take on for each level. You can aim at collecting all Prima on the level, locate all the red crystals – known as Bloodroocks – find the special techno mumbo-jumbo thing, and finish the level within a specific time limit. For the Prima, you’ll have to defeat all enemies, destroy all crates, and search high and low for all glowing spheres. The special item can usually be found after solving a puzzle or two. As for the crystals, some will be near your main path, others will be hidden, and you will also need to break large red crystals to collect the rest.
