Krimson from PM Studios and CryingPsycho is a challenging rhythm platformer on Nintendo Switch. As an unknown spawn, you’ll explore a hellish world while moving in time with the beat. It’s certainly a trippy, nightmare fuel experience that stands out on Nintendo’s console. Every step you take, every jump you make, every dash you weave must land on the beat… or you’re doomed. The good news is there are plenty of checkpoints to activate, so as long as you pay attention and learn from your mistakes, you’ll be able to have a chance of seeing the credits roll.

Krimson Review - 1

The controls are very simple so that you can focus on the action on the screen at all times. You’ll control your character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad as you jump and double jump by using the A button. To be able to complete a level, you’ll need to collect the mythical flame that will make it possible to enter the glowing portal that will take you to the next stage. Avoid all hazards on your path and pay attention to the music, or else!

Krimson Review - 2

The game makes excellent use of the console’s HD Rumble, allowing you to feel the changes in each song as the beat kicks in. You’ll first have to time your jumps to avoid stationary hazards. Next up, you’ll have to deal with moving hazards. And then, the game will start to throw disappearing/reappearing obstacles and platforms. This is when mastering wall hugging and wall jumping will be a must. Add rotating platforms, hazards and platforms that change size, and deadly projectiles, and you have a game that will challenge you every step of the way.

And then, we have the bosses. While you can take on most levels at your own pace as you get to know the beat, boss stages won’t give you much time to react. Sure, there are still checkpoints to activate, but you’ll need to be on high alert right from the start so that you can learn from your mistakes and progress further and further into this hellish realm.

Krimson Review - 3

Krimson is a challenging rhythm platformer. As an unknown spawn, you’ll be exploring a hellish world while moving in time with the beat, with trial and error being a big part of your journey as you learn from your mistakes and give it another go. It’s a dark and trippy one that won’t be for everyone due to its high difficulty and overall presentation. You can also check out the game’s soundtrack on the CryingPsycho Bandcamp page. Krimson is out on Nintendo Switch with a $9.99 price tag.
