Jubilee from Red Art Games and Finalboss Blues is a hardcore 2D precision platformer ready for you to show your skills on PS5. Your character is thrown in prison for not paying her debt. She’s not the only one who’s been sent there, and it’s up to you to help her help them escape from this nightmare. There are even some animals trapped in this prison!

The controls are very simple since you’ll control your character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad and jump with the X, Square, Triangle, or Circle buttons. Pressing the X, Square, Triangle, or Circle button a second time while up in the air will allow your character to perform a twirl that will extend her jump for a bit. She can also wall jump to overcome some obstacles.

Things start off easy enough, with nothing to worry about other than the always sharp spikes that can kill you in a single thing… as can any other hazard or enemy you run into! You’ll soon find deadly carnivorous plants that will take a bite out of you. There are also piranhas that will jump out of the water as they chomp away with their teeth. Once you reach the crumbling blocks and bottomless pits, you’ll have gotten used to the bump in the challenge.

Any gems you collect along the way – and there are many – will need to be banked at a checkpoint before they can be added to your total. If you die while carrying gems, you’ll lose them and will need to collect them again. You can pause the action to check out how many gems there are in each section, as well as how many you’re still missing. With 999 gems to collect, there’s plenty for you to do if you want to 100% this one!

The game features a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy waiting for you. And since it’s a Cross-Buy title, if you own a PS5, you can download the PS4 and PS5 versions and work adding two Platinum trophies to your collection. It’s a short list since it includes 11 Gold trophies for you to take on. For the Platinum, you’ll have to die 100, 500, and 1,000 times, don’t rescue any animals, rescue all animals, unlock a character by finding all shrines, collect all 5 secret pages, collect and bank every gem in the game, and beat the game in… different ways. Let’s leave it at that.

Jubilee Review - extra

Jubilee from Red Art Games and Finalboss Blues is a hardcore 2D precision platformer. The game does not feel overwhelming since it has a good difficulty curve and offers a series of interconnected areas with subsections to explore. If you run into a particularly tricky segment, you can just teleport to a shrine and explore another area. There are even different ways for you to complete the game, and it’s a good option for speedrunners to take for a spin. Jubilee is available as a Cross-Buy title, so your $9.99 purchase will allow you to download the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game at no extra cost.
