KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes Of Desire! is a new Isekai visual novel on Nintendo Switch. This one comes from MAGES and PQube, so you can have a pretty good idea of what to expect from it. This particular developer and publisher combo previously gave us the also weirdly titled Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Familia Myth Infinite Combate, so I was looking forward to checking out what they would do with the KONOSUBA franchise.

If you’re new to it, KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! is a light novel series first released in Japan in 2012. It tells the story of Kazuma Satou, a young boy who ends up in a fantasy world with MMORPG elements… after his unfortunate death. That’s the Isekai part since what Isekai refers to is a subgenre in which someone is transported from the real world into an alternate world where they must find a way to survive during the mayhem of landing in, say, a fantasy-themed world. KONOSUBA also had a manga adaptation that started in 2014 and is still going to this day. As expected, it also got an anime adaptation that started in 2016 and has had dozens of episodes as well as a couple of OVAs.

For this Nintendo Switch release, Kazuma, Megumin, Aqua, and Darkness run into a particular curse that you’ll now have to try to break. What happens this time around? Megumin sees a weird, dark rock on a field and decides that the best thing to do would be to pick it up. What could possibly go wrong? Well, as it turns out… a lot! It was a magical item that turns materials into pieces of clothing! And yes, this does lead to some fan service, which is not going to be for everyone.

While this quickly makes some of the girls think of a way to get rich by instantly generating a ton of clothes and selling them, things don’t end up being so simple. The group is framed for a crime they didn’t commit and is accused of robbing a local noble. On top of that, the magical rock ends up cursing all of them and inverting their desires! Will you be able to help them break the curse?

How will you be playing through this new adventure? A big chunk of your time with KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! Love For These Clothes Of Desire! will be spent with the visual novel part of the equation. Along with that, you’ll have to gather enough materials within the established deadline to be able to create the requested clothing with the help of the aforementioned magical rock and its powers. You’ll be taking care of this in the following gameplay loop.

You’ll first have to work on creating a three-day schedule for Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness. You’ll need to check the name of the outfit needed to progress further in the game’s story and review the recipe for said outfit. You have to complete the outfit by the deadline given to you by the noble. Assign a part-time job or a quest to each character, and then confirm your selections.

After sorting that out, you’ll be shown what the outcome was of your planning. Will your group manage to succeed in gathering all the required resources? You’ll then get a rest day scene in which the group will unwind for a bit. After that, it will be time to take the materials to create the clothes. If you happen to be running a bit short of this or that item, then you’ll be able to grab some stuff at Wiz’s Magical Item Shoppe.

There are three different types of outfits you can create in the game: Curse-lifting outfits, noble-requested outfits, and quest outfits. As the name suggests, those in the first category will be outfits you must craft to work your way toward being one step closer to lifting the curse placed upon one of your party members. Noble-requested items are needed to complete a story chapter and progress further. As for quest outfits, they’re from requests placed by the people of Axal, which you can work on completing along with those in the other two categories. Each chapter has a time limit, so if you run out of days and can’t complete the noble-requested outfit, it’s game over!

The game is fully voice acted and features the voice cast from the anime, which will be a great plus for fans of KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World! This does mean that if you don’t know Japanese, you’ll be doing a lot of reading during your time with KONOSUBA – God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!
