Team17 and Black Salt Games are back with another dose of doom and gloom fishing. Are you up for it? Then check out our DREDGE – The Pale Reach review!
Team17 and Black Salt Games are back with another dose of doom and gloom fishing. I had a good time with DREDGE on PlayStation 5 when I reviewed it back in March, so I was definitely up for taking on new content in this single-player DLC. To sum things up, The Pale Reach gives us more DREDGE to play since it opens up the way to a new island out in the frozen part of the sea. You can go and explore this island at any time and will be told by the traveling merchant about a photographer who is interested in taking pictures of the wildlife.
You’ll need to make your way to the island south of The Marrows to meet her so that you can get started on the content that The Pale Reach has to offer. While you can indeed sail over there right away, you might want to progress further in the main DREDGE experience so that you can upgrade your ship and your equipment. This will make it easier to be better prepared for what The Pale Reach DLC will throw at you. It’s nothing you won’t be able to handle, but having an upgraded vessel and some extra money will certainly go a long way.
Having a net out at all times will be a must since there are new fish and creatures for you to catch – of the regular and the more sinister variety. Throwing some large crab pots in The Pale Reach area as soon as you’re done talking to the photographer is also advised since there are also some new crabs for you to trap. Along with the new creatures to catch, there’s also a huge creature that can quickly destroy your ship if you’re not careful and don’t pay attention to what needs to be done to appease it.
This DLC adds 7 new trophies for you to work on, which shouldn’t be much trouble to sort out… if you’re prepared for what needs to be done. There are 18 new species and 12 new aberrations to catch in this DLC, as well as new equipment and items that will be of great help when taking on the Pale Reach area. Some species are specific to the nighttime, so don’t shy away from the darkness! If you need some extra help, you can check out this DREDGE – The Pale Reach Trophy Guide.
If you enjoyed DREDGE on PlayStation 5 and want more content to play through and a new setting to explore, then The Pale Reach DLC will certainly scratch that itch. If you didn’t like DREDGE or have no interest in checking it out, then this DLC is not going to change your mind. It adds a new area to explore, new objectives to complete, new creatures to catch, and even new trophies for you to work on. DREDGE – The Pale Reach is available as Cross-Buy DLC, so your $5.99 purchase will allow you to download this extra content for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
This DREDGE – The Pale Reach DLC is based on a PlayStation 5 copy provided by Team17.
