Word Web by POWGI is the latest word game from Lightwood Games on the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch platforms. Find out more about it in our Word Web by POWGI review!
This is a double review for Word Web by POWGI. Ceidz and EdEN played the game, and this review presents what they both had to say.
Word Web is a new word puzzle where the player has to complete a grid containing 25 different letters in order to spell a number of target words. The words can be spelled in any direction along the “web” of lines in the grid – the challenge is that words will almost never read left-to-right!
These puzzles are solved using deduction, by considering letters that need to be used more than once, and the possible routes that can be used to spell a word. This should appeal to fans of our previous logic-based puzzles, such as Wordsweeper by POWGI and Word Sudoku by POWGI. Word Web is sometimes also known by the name Gogen.
Word Web by POWGI has 120 puzzles to solve, with 120 of our trademark bad jokes as a “reward” for solving them.
For a long time now, I’ve been a great fan of the POWGI word games from Lightwood Games, and I was looking forward to trying out this new installment. This time around, the concept is quite simple: you’ll have to find where to place the 25 letters of the alphabet (minus the Z) on the grid to form the words listed below each of the 120 puzzles.
As you try different letter placement combinations, you’ll often solve words below but not in the right way as it would block you from completing the puzzle. For this, you have a handy “Fix Error” menu accessible by pressing L1 + R1 simultaneously, and it will remove letters that are not at their designated place. By using this method, you should not have any issues completing the game, as it can help with guesswork. I do have to mention a minor issue I had with the controls, as you can highlight words in the grid using the properly placed ones. I had a minor issue with the controls as you can put emphasis on specific words by pressing R1, but when selected, pressing the Fix Error L1 + R1 buttons would change the selected word.
As for the presentation, it uses the signature POWGI style, so gamers who know the franchise will be in familiar territory. This one also features a dark theme option that dims the background color from white to grey, which is a feature I really like. I like the POWGI series, and this one was a lot of fun. I liked how you can think ahead and place each letter one by one by thinking ahead, or you can place some letters and fix the errors when you want to progress without thinking out too much. This game is an easy one to recommend to gamers looking for a fun Platinum trophy.
The latest word puzzle release from Lightwood Games is here! Word Web by POWGI has you placing 25 letters over a grid that resembles a web, and you must use all letters to form the words on the list for that particular puzzle. The letter Z is the only one that won’t be used. While letters must be connected to form words along a path, words won’t need to be presented in a straight line. With 120 puzzles to test your skills, you’ll be spending quite some time trying to find all of the solutions!
Trophy-wise, this one has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy, and it’s also a Cross-Buy release, which is to be expected from Lightwood Games. While they used to release their games as Cross-Buy titles on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, since that’s no longer the case, we’re now getting them on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Each version of the game has its own trophy list, which includes 25 Silver trophies and 3 Gold trophies for you to work on. If you need some extra help, you can check out this Word Web by POWGI Trophy Guide.
Word Web by POWGI is a word game on PlayStation in which you must complete a grid containing 25 different letters to be able to spell the target words on the list. Since you can spell words in any direction along the web of lines on the grid by using the letters – minus the letter Z – you will have a fun time finding the right combinations of letters to complete each puzzle. Word Web by POWGI is available at a $7.99 asking price, and since it’s a Cross-Buy title, your purchase will give you access to both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game, with each version having its own separate trophy list with a Platinum trophy at the end of the road.
