We’ll be working on a review for Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm, so I got in touch with Cornfox & Brothers to talk about the game’s PS5 release. Come check it out!
PS4B: Good morning! Thank you for joining us today. Care to tell our readers a bit about yourself and your work?
Hi, we’re Cornfox & Brothers, an indie game studio founded in Helsinki in 2010. We’ve developed other games, but we’re best known for the Oceanhorn saga. Your readers are probably familiar with Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas, which we released on PS4 and PS Vita, among other platforms. We love RPGs, and Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realms is the latest installment in the saga – and before you ask, it’s actually a prequel!
PS4B: After its 2020 release on Nintendo Switch, Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is on its way to PlayStation 5. How has the game changed between its original release and this revamped version?
Oceanhorn 2 establishes much of the lore seen in Monster of the Uncharted Seas, from who created Oceanhorn and why to the role of the Knights of Arcadia in the catastrophe that shattered the known world into separate islands to what the Emblems really are. Players will play as Hero, a brand-new Knight who goes from complete novice to key figure in the saga. We also see the origins of Mesmeroth and learn the reasons behind his actions. If all this sounds unfamiliar because you haven’t played Monster of Uncharted Seas, don’t worry – Oceanhorn 2 is chronologically the first in the timeline, and you’re definitely in for a ride! If you like action RPGs in the vein of The Legend of Zelda, the last few episodes of Final Fantasy, or more obscure titles like The Last Story, you will love the vibe of Oceanhorn 2.
The PlayStation 5 version of the game includes all of the many updates we have made since the original release, including new quests, new dungeons, an expanded ending scene, the Arcadian Tarock card mini-game, and more. Of course, this version also takes advantage of the better hardware, so it really is the best version of the game out there.
PS4B: Are there any plans for a physical release for Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm on PlayStation 5?
Right now, we’re focusing on the digital release.
PS4B: With Oceanhorn 2 now ready for its PlayStation launch, what’s the studio currently working on?
Now that Oceanhorn 2 is complete, we are focusing on something new, an unannounced Unreal Engine 5 project. We can’t wait to tell you more about it!
PS4B: And that’s all the time we have for today. Would you like to add anything else before we go?
Yes! A team of about 10 people worked on the development of Oceanhorn 2, but many more were involved in the porting process. We’d like to thank them all for their hard work!
