RIDE 5 from Milestones brings us a new hyperrealistic bike racing game on PlayStation 5. This one is going to be a must-play for motorsports fans around the world, thanks to the many customization options, the big selection of bikes from different dealerships that you can buy with your prize money, and the micro-managing side of the equation available for those of you who want to dive into the deep end.
As you can probably guess, this is the sequel to RIDE 4, which launched on PlayStation 5 back in 2021. the_nmac got a chance to review RIDE 4, and I liked what I learned about that game, so I was definitely up for checking out its sequel. RIDE 5 has plenty of content for you to enjoy since it offers over 35 tracks for you to ride on as you get the hang of things and improve your skills and expertise. You’re looking at dozens of hours of gaming as you move from bike to bike to increase your odds of winning a race.
If you’re determined to win every single race in Career Mode, then you’re going to have to give it your all as you find the best way to cut some valuable seconds from each lap so that you can get closer and closer to beating your opponents. There is also an Endurance Mode, which allows you to ride your bike as you please so that you can save your progress, take a break, and then come back to carry onward.
The main Career Mode has four acts, and you have to complete the objectives for beating each act before you can go on to the next one. Four might not sound like a lot but worry not because you’re going to be spending a lot of time playing through each one. The Career Mode also comes with a rivals system in which you’ll be competing to beat many special rivals, each one with its own distinctive personality, full background, and personalized appearance. The rivals system was an interesting addition to the Career Mode since it adds an extra layer to the whole scenario.
On top of all that, you also have the single races to take on, which will allow you to get a better hang of things as you learn what works best and what you’ll need to avoid when taking on races in Career Mode or Endurance Mode. You can tweak your game’s settings, bike settings and test them out. This will make it easier to find the best combination for your playing style. If I purchased a new bike or wanted to tweak my settings and check out how it changed speed, handling, and so on, I would do this in this mode.
The game has multiplayer, as well as full cross-platform support, so you can play against your friends on any platform that has RIDE 5 available. I suggest that you play through a chunk of the Career Mode, play through Endurance Mode, and take on some single races here and there before you go into the multiplayer since you’ll be racing against gamers from all over the world. Not doing this could leave you feeling a bit overwhelmed when you go online!
And now, let’s talk about the trophies! As expected, RIDE 5 has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy, as is usually the case for retail releases. The list includes 36 Bronze trophies, 11 Silver trophies, and 2 Gold trophies for you to unlock. There’s plenty for you to do in his game! The trophies will unlock as you buy your first bike, buy a new exhaust, create a new bike and helmet customized to your liking, win or buy a total of 10 bikes, make a pit stop during an Endurance Mode race, win a race at each of the different tracks, complete an online race, or create your very own customized competition, to name some examples.
I had a lot of fun during my time playing this one for our RIDE 5 review. The graphics are beautiful and very photorealistic, with a fully dynamic weather system – even the clouds look great as they move and change shape as you ride. The game is also very accessible, even for those who are new to bike racing, offering a lot of customization options so that even those without any previous experience can have a good time. RIDE 5 is out today on PlayStation 5 with a $59.99 price tag. There’s also a RIDE 5 Special Edition available for $89.99, which includes the main game, along with the following extra content:
RIDE 5 – Far East Pack
RIDE 5 – Rebel Pack
RIDE 5 – Season Pass
