Remembering Some of the Best Space-Themed Games On PlayStation

by Palabar

Gamers are spoiled with an extensive collection of gaming genres these days. Even beyond PlayStation gaming platforms, there is plenty for the average gamer to explore.

On Sony’s trusted console machine, though, space-themed games have been populating the space for decades. In fact, some of the first-ever games on any console machine were space related.

As technology has advanced and the games we can play have become even more sophisticated, this somewhat niche category of gaming has managed to thrive further. Even on devices like the Nintendo Wii, gamers have solid options in this category, like action role-playing title The Outer Worlds and adventure releases like Astroneer, while mobile and tablet gamers can explore Space Miners, a popular product powered by Relax Gaming that has a fast-paced space mining theme. Surviving Mars is a solid Xbox title, too. Essentially, there are, and always have been, plenty of opportunities for space lovers to get stuck into in the gaming world.

On PlayStation, in particular, a number of space-themed favorites have occupied the space over the years. Without some of them, many of the games of this type today certainly wouldn’t be the same. So, without further ado, let’s take a brief look back at some of the best space-themed games on PlayStation from over the years.

Destiny 2

Kicking things off with a much-loved product within the community, Destiny 2 has managed to make a comeback after annoying quite a few people when it was first released in 2017. A few tweaks have certainly improved the game in recent times, particularly the free-to-play introduction that elevated the game dramatically and provided gamers with an online shooter with plenty of positives. Not only does the game now serve up strong doses of entertainment, but Destiny 2 is a real challenge when facing off against some of your online rivals.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Given the popularity of Marvel, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was always going to do well. It didn’t disappoint either, with this space-based storytelling masterpiece being enjoyed by millions of gamers around the world. Featuring the well-liked characters from the movies, there are loads of team-based battling scenarios to sample in this one, while saving the galaxy leads to some tricky decisions to make along the journey, too. The graphics aren’t bad either in this one.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The Star Wars category has been filled with forgettable releases that appear to be nothing more than cash grabs, although Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga definitely bucks the trend somewhat. A fairly new release compared to many other titles on the list, the game serves up a feast of space-themed battles, all while embarking on a Lego-sized adventure. With exploration to undertake and characters to unlock too, this fun product deserves a mention. For a Lego-related release, it certainly delivers where others don’t.

Dreadnought

Dreadnought belongs on this particular list, doesn’t it? A 2017 release that many gamers enjoyed for a while up until it shutdown on PlayStation back in March this year. The game was a solid combat flight simulator that put players’ brain power to the test. As gamers led a giant spacecraft into space, anything could happen, although strategic gameplay was key in this particular fan favorite.
