After You from JanduSoft and K148 Game Studio is a bite-sized first-person narrative puzzle game on PlayStation 5. This publisher and indie dev combo previously gave us first-person puzzle game TEMPUS on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. You’ll be playing as Aron, a man who wakes up realizing he’s all alone. His family is gone. His neighbors are gone. It’s up to you to help Aron understand what is happening. The story will take place over three chapters and three locations to explore.
You’ll walk with the left analog stick and look around with the right one. If you want to move at a faster pace, then press and hold down the R1 button or press in on the left analog stick. Press the X button to jump. The Square button can be used to interact. You could use this to, for example, check the framed picture on the nightstand in the bedroom. By doing this, you’ll learn the name of Aron’s wife, Natalie, and of their son Izan, who seems to have left for college. Walk into another room, and you’ll find a note from Natalie that will allow you to learn more about what is really going on.
The game autosaves at the start of each chapter, so if you want to save your progress, you’ll have to play through each short chapter in full before quitting. Interacting with all objects and notes will be part of the gameplay loop since you’ll have to find codes that can be used to trigger mechanisms to open doors or information that will lead you toward your next objective. Oh, and once you find the flashlight, you’ll be able to use it with the L1 button.
There are no missable trophies for this one, which is great since After You has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy. And since this one is a Cross-Buy title, your purchase will allow you to download both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game. The list includes 2 Silver trophies and 11 Gold trophies for you to work on. The first one will pop once you start your journey, with the rest popping as you complete puzzles and finish each chapter. If you need some extra help, you can check out this After You Trophy Guide.
After You is a bite-sized first-person narrative puzzle game that you can probably complete in less than 2 hours. As you make your way through each chapter, you’ll get to learn more about Aron and his family. It’s a chill experience with a minimalist polygon presentation, just like K148 Game Studio did for TEMPUS on PlayStation. After You is available as a Cross-Buy title, so your $6.99 purchase will give you access to both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game at no extra cost.
