Poosh XL from Adamvision Studios is a neon-infused, one-button arcade-style experience in which you’ll work on getting the best score possible. You’re probably familiar with Adamvision Studios thanks to their work on the many games in Atari’s Recharged series, such as revamped brick breaker Breakout Recharged, or fast-paced multidirectional shooter Black Widow Recharged. It’s a spiritual follow-up to the dev’s Ding Dong XL, which launched on Nintendo Switch back in 2019.
The controls are very simple to get the hang of, since you’ll only need to worry on pressing the Poosh button – in this case, the A button or, alternatively, the ZR button – when your power and angle are just right, so that you can carry on boosting your score. You’ll have to be quick, since if you take too long, the floor will raise up and destroy you. You’ll have to avoid as many obstacles on your path as possible, so that you can increase you score in hopes of leaving your mark in the leaderboard.
Each run will be procedurally generated, so you won’t know exactly what you’ll be going up against. And as you go through each run, to be able to avoid as many obstacles as possible, you’ll need to also consider collecting some power-ups along the way. Grab a lighting bolt and your sphere will grow rotating spikes that will destroy any obstacles it runs into. Collect a nuclear bomb to send a shockwave that will get rid of all obstacles and hazards on the screen.
While the main goal for each of your runs will be to get the best score possible, you can also work on playing through a series of Challenges. This will provide you with some objectives to complete so that you can unlock some cosmetic skins to change the look of your sphere. There are 12 challenges in total, and they’re going to need a lot of trial and error so that you can find the right timing to succeed. After you’re done with a challenge, you’ll be able to change the look of your sphere.
Poosh XL is a fun neon-infused, one-button arcade-style experience on Nintendo’s console. It presents an endless loop of an arcade-style experience in which you’ll only have to press one button to progress further and further as you aim to get the best score possible for each run. Grab some power-ups along the way to get rid of obstacles so that you can extend your run as the difficulty increases at a steady pace. Poosh XL is out on Nintendo Switch at a $4.99 price.
