Hyper Shapes from JanduSoft and BlindShot Studio is a minimalist boss rush experience on PlayStation. As you can see from the trailer above, each boss will offer a very different experience. This means there’s going to be some trial and error in your future as you learn each boss’ movement and attack patterns so that you can find the right time to strike so that you can eventually defeat a boss to move on to the next one.
You’ll learn all of the basics right away. Things start off easy enough, with a cube that you control with the left analog stick. It can dash with the Square button. You’re quickly introduced to a second element: a sphere. When the square is near it, you can then use the right analog stick to aim it so that you can launch it at an obstacle to clear a path to the exit, or at least that’s what you intend to do. Some obstacles will go away with a single hit, while others will need you to be more persistent.
Trophy-wise, it offers a list with a lone Silver trophy and 11 Gold trophies, and since it’s a Cross-Buy title, your purchase will give you both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game. This is good news for trophy hunters because each version of the game features its own trophy list! There are trophies tied to defeating the first, fifth, and final bosses in the game, as well as some miscellaneous trophies along the way, such as defeating the first boss without shooting the ball, defeating the third boss without letting it shoot, or dodging the lasers of the final boss for 30 seconds, which is as tricky as it sounds.
Hyper Shapes is a minimalist boss rush experience that is easy to understand but hard to master. Each new boss you run into will have a different movement and attack pattern to consider, so you’ll need to pay attention and be patient so that you can find the right time to strike. Hyper Shapes is available as a Cross-Buy title, so your $4.99 purchase will give you access to both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 versions of the game at no extra cost.
