Alterity Experience is a closed-door first-person game in which you must survive through a series of strange and unexplained phenomena. It comes from Dolores Entertainment and Onitron Studio, and it offers a bite-sized experience that shouldn’t take you more than an hour to complete at most. Even though there’s some very heavy rain outside, your wife Betty and your kids are getting ready to go see a movie, so you decide to examine the glowing corn that you found on the field. What could possibly go wrong?
Once you gain control, you’ll move with the left analog stick as you look around with the right one. If you press in on the left analog stick, you’ll be able to run. Pressing in on the right analog stick will allow you to crouch. The X button will be used for interacting. The Triangle button will control your phone’s flashlight. To get a better look at something, you can press the R2 button to zoom in. The L2 button will be for holding your smartphone to use the home app to close the safety curtains on the many windows and doors in your house.
You’ll soon start to have some weird visions, which are the game’s way of letting you know that something very bad is about to happen. Yes, you’ve guessed it… it’s aliens! There will be a couple of segments in the game during which the aliens will try to enter the house. Unfortunately, you live on a ranch, and that means your house has a lot of doors and windows through which the aliens can enter. You can use your smartphone to close the metal security door, but you’ll have to manually close each door and window through which the aliens try to break into your home.
Trophy-wise, the game has a full list with a Platinum trophy, with some of them being missable. The good news is that it’s a short game, so if you do miss a trophy, a second run shouldn’t take you more than 30 minutes. The list includes nothing but Gold trophies, and the ones you need to keep in mind are for fully checking all documents in the game, for not using your smartphone to close the metallic security doors, and for entering the special symbols into the alien contraption during the final moments of the game. If you need some extra help, here’s an Alterity Experience Trophy Guide.
Alterity Experience is a closed-door first-person game in which you must survive through a series of strange and unexplained phenomena. It’s a short one that you can complete in an hour at most, and it doesn’t offer much variety for you to truly enjoy your time with it. The randomization of where key items are located in each room is supposed to help increase replay value, but it makes for a cumbersome experience. Add the randomization of the symbols that the last alien projects as it scans your home and how two of them are extremely hard to review properly, and you have a game that is not going to be for everyone. Alterity Experience is out on PlayStation 4 at a $9.99 price.
