Super Chicken Jumper from eastasiasoft and Sewer Cat is a 2D autorunner in which you must save the world. The President herself has called you into action because the XX are back! For the last 25 years, the XX has been researching to be able to create monsters. Their first creation? A zombie fish! Since each level is procedurally generated, you won’t be getting the same layout twice. Sometimes a layout will be more challenging, so there’s going to be some trial and error in your future.
This one offers a Story Mode, a Challenge Mode, and an Endless Mode, but you’ll first have to play through Story Mode to unlock the rest of the options. Each level is short and to the point, and you’ll have to take on a boss fight at the end of each set of stages. Challenge Mode offers 28 different objectives to complete – take on stages under the effects of a mushroom, use your weapon to cut the threes on your path, or complete a platforming segment. Endless Mode is self-explanatory since you’ll be playing for as long as possible to try and get the highest score during your run.
The controls are easy to pick up since you’ll move your chicken with the left analog stick, jumping with the X or L2 buttons and aiming with the right analog stick as you attack with the Square and R2 buttons… and that’s about it! As you run through each stage, you might run into items that will have an effect on your chicken. One mushroom might make it gigantic, while another one will make it feel… weird. You’ll know what I mean once you grab one. Maybe grabbing a huge bomb can make a difference?
You’ll also be collecting special items and weapons. The first item? A hat! It doesn’t do anything special… or does it? As for the first weapon you’ll collect? It will be a mighty knife! After defeating the first boss in the game – that would be a giant zombie fish – you’ll get a propeller hat, which will allow your chicken to jump higher. What weapon will you get after the knife? A mighty boomerang! Don’t forget that what goes around comes around. There are eight items and eight weapons to unlock. Oh, and be sure press the Triangle button to equip any of the items and weapons you find! If you forget to do this, they won’t be of much use!
Trophy-wise, this one has a full trophy list with a Platinum trophy, and since it’s a Cross-Buy release, if you own a PlayStation 5, you can work on adding both trophies to your collection. The list is a short one since it has a lonely Silver trophy and 11 Gold trophies. What will you need to do for that Platinum trophy? You have to beat the first three bosses in the game, die 50, 100, and 200 times, destroy 250, 500, and 1,000 obstacles, and survive for 15, 30, and 60 seconds in the Endless Mode.
