Get-A-Grip Chip and the Body Bugs from Restart Interactive is a standalone adventure in which you must defeat the titular entities that are infection the human body. It follows up on the foundation set by the excellent Get-A-Grip Chip while giving us a new setting and a new premise. You’ll traverse through the body’s digestive system as Chip, who has now been converted into a synthetic white blood cell that must find, collect, and activate the body’s white blood cells to battle against the three major bugs: an allergen, a bacteria, and a virus.
This game was created in partnership with Games for Change as part of their STEM Your Game Challenge. The original idea was to take an existing commercial game and tweak things around so that it could become an educational game, and that’s how Get-A-Grip Chip and the Body Bugs came to be! You’ll learn about the digestive system as you try to help the body recover from the attacks of the aforementioned entities.
If you’ve played Get-A-Grip Chip – or checked out our review, then you’ll know that you’ll control Chip with the left analog stick as you aim with the right one. Press the R or ZR buttons, and you can launch Chip’s magnetic grapple, which it can use to swing around each stage. This is very important because Chip can’t jump, so using the magnetic grapple to swing is how you’ll be able to find the missing white blood cells.
Speaking of white blood cells, they’re part of the new gameplay mechanic you’ll experience at the end of each stage. Once you’ve completed a level, you will need to match each of the white blood cells that you’ve collected with a definition of the concept they represent. And since Get-A-Grip Chip and the Body Bugs has an educational twist, you can also adjust the difficulty so that gamers of all skill levels can enjoy this 2D platforming adventure.
If you enjoyed Get-A-Grip Chip, then you’ll have a blast with Get-A-Grip Chip and the Body Bugs since it has all-new levels in a new setting with a new premise. And if you’re new to it, then you’ll find a fun 2D platformer in which your character must use its magnetic grapple to move through each stage as it finds as many white blood cells as possible. Get-A-Grip Chip and the Body Bugs is available on its own on Nintendo Switch with a $2.99 asking price. Do know that if you purchase Get-A-Grip Chip, which is available for $9.99, it will give you access to Get-A-Grip Chip and the Body Bugs at no extra cost.
