We’ll be working on a review for The Big Con – GRIFT OF THE YEAR EDITION, so I got in touch with Mighty Yell to talk a bit about the game and its development. Come check it out!
PS4Blog: Good morning! Thank you for joining us. Could you please help us get started by telling our readers a bit about yourself and your work?
Absolutely, and thanks a lot for having me. My name is Dave Proctor, and I’m the Game Director and writer on The Big Con. Well, not all of it… but a lot of it!
PS4B: On that note, The Big Con – GRIFT OF THE YEAR EDITION is ready to go on Nintendo Switch. What can you tell us about this project?
It is out, and we are so proud of this game. The Big Con is a story about Ali, a teenage girl in the 1990s who finds out that her family video store that she runs with her mom is being threatened by loan sharks. So, she does what any normal 1990s teen does and sets out on a cross-country adventure to get the money back by conning, grifting, and picking people’s pockets.
The game came out last summer on Xbox One and PC, and we just brought it to switch with a massive free update, including new quests, new jokes, new ways to con people, collectible digital stickers, and even a skateboarding arcade game that you can play!
PS4B: How long did it take the team to port the game to the Nintendo Switch? Were there any hurdles or challenges you had to overcome during the process?
We’ve been quietly working on the Switch version since we launched last summer but wanted to make sure that all of our bonus content was sitting just right before we pulled the trigger. Always a fun challenge to bring a game to the Switch, but thanks to a very good porting team (shoutout to Laundry Bear Games!), we were able to do it pretty painlessly. The biggest challenge for us was getting all the new content in and up to snuff with the rest of the game. We wanted the new stuff to feel new but also sit in seamlessly with the rest of the quests and cons we already made.
PS4B: Any chance that a digital or physical The Big Con art book is in the works?
We’d love that, but nothing to confirm yet. We are still working on some updates to the game and hopefully have more exciting news to share in the near future. In the meantime, you can keep an eye on our merch website for some very, very cool T-shirt designs that we are dropping quarterly. The next merch drop will happen soon, so you can join our mailing list to find out when it does!
PS4B: And now it’s time for us to go. Is there something else you’d like to add before we go?
If you like games that make you laugh, that have a lot of different ways to play, that are weird, that have a wicked soundtrack, that are colorful, that have a lot of references to weird 1990s culture and fictional canned meat products… then The Big Con is for you! Pick it up on Nintendo Switch right now!
